Made-from-scratch cakes, pies, biscuits; Mexican: tamales, enchiladas; big family dinners that remind me of my childhood: chicken and dumplings, creamed chicken, sausage gravy and biscuits.

Making requested birthday dinners and cakes. Making, decorating and distributing Christmas cookies with my kids. Thanksgiving!

My cooking tragedies
When I was 20, I was making my son's homemade chocolate cake for his birthday and many guests were expected. In my nervous flurry, I accidentally grabbed the mason jar containing baking soda instead of the one with powdered sugar, and made the entire batch of icing with it. I did not realize my mistake until I'd finished frosting the cake and licked the spatula. It was awful! I had to send my husband out at the last minute to buy a cake from the grocery store!

Melt - In - Your - Mouth Shortbread
I usually make a traditional shortbread at Christmas time. These have a nice texture, but I wasn't sold on the flavor when I tasted the dough. It just didn't taste as rich. I added some lemon juice and zest to make the taste more multi-dimensional.

Christmas Plum Pudding
The flavor of the pudding was good when I tasted the batter, but I steamed the pudding for 9.5 hrs, checked it, and it was very dark and the entire outside of the pudding seems burnt. I have never burnt anything while steaming before and didn't even know that was possible. :(

French Silk Chocolate Pie I
Made this for my husbands birthday. I added a layer of peanut-butter beat with whipped cream and confectioner's sugar and topped it with more whipped cream. I could never get the white sugar in the chocolate portion of the pie to dissolve, but the flavor was nice. He loved it.
