About this Cook
I live in central California but am a Texas girl at heart. I am a retired Hospice nurse and I absolutly loved my work. Married to a great guy for 33 yrs; mother to 5 grown kids and 12 grandkids
My favorite things to cook
I love to cook sourthern foods and simple fare. I love to bake yeast breads of all kinds and can the wonderful foods of summer.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Canning and baking bread. My daughter is now teaching her daughter to do the same.
My cooking triumphs
Any meal that is "by request" from someone in the family for me is as good as it gets.
My cooking tragedies
Years ago, we lived in Houston. I was making whole wheat bread (six loaves at a time)and I had set the large bowel of dough in a warm spot to rise. The family had just started watching a long movie and I joined them - totally forgetting about the rising dough. Well - several hours later - my husband found the living, breathing dough on the counters, floor and wall.It looked like the saturday horror movie "The Blob" We all had a good laugh.

Steakhouse Black Bread
I followed the recipe except added 5 tablespoons of brown sugar and honey instead of molasses (didn't have any). This bread is wonderful. Four stars because it took awhile for the loaf to rise.

Slow-Cooker Pepper Steak
Don't waste the ingredients. DH (is not a picky eater) took one bite and asked for an egg sandwich. Enough said.

Amish Macaroni Salad
This truely is the best macaroni salad I have ever had. Hint: reduce sugar to 1/2 cup; chop all vegtables and mix dressing in separate bowls then cook macaroni. Hot pasta absorbs the flavor and dressing. Chill over night for best results. Best flavor and absorbs all of the dressing.
