Taqueria Style Tacos - Carne Asada

Reviewed: Mar. 22, 2010
this was easy to make, and a crowd pleaser. i felt like the meat was a little chewy, but that could have been my preparation, which was big slices and pan-fried in a skillet.

Slow Cooker Macaroni and Cheese II

Reviewed: Feb. 22, 2010
i love love love mac & cheese, and i love slow cookers, so i thought this would be an wish fulfilled. unfortunately, the end result was not as tasty as i would have liked. i think that the cheese sauce overheated and separated, because it was a little sour and a little grainy.

English Tea Cakes

Reviewed: Feb. 22, 2010
these were not good - i'm not sure if i made them incorrectly, or if they are genuinely not good. whatever the explanation, i was terribly disappointed after reading such positive reviews. i would not make these again.

White Chocolate Macadamia Nut Cookies III

Reviewed: Feb. 22, 2010
these are great - they won my office holiday cookie contest! try using brazil nuts if you don't have any macadamia nuts (or want to go with a cheaper version) - the flavor is not the same, but is very tasty and different! and honestly, i have never found a good use for brazil nuts until now!

Cranberry Pistachio Biscotti

Reviewed: Feb. 22, 2010
these are a true crowd pleaser - i've made them four or five times, and my mom, who hates baking, has asked me to make them for her twice so that she can learn how by watching. i like to make the loaves small so that the end product is miniature, which looks very cute on a cookie plate.

Bavarian Style Meatballs

Reviewed: Feb. 22, 2010
This was a huge hit at my new year's eve party. I was really excited because I've never made meat balls before (I grew up vegetarian pretty much, so meat fascinates me). I didn't need to get so excited, however, because people were eating them like they were going out of style. The ingredients seem weird, but they taste really good together. I made mine in a small, 2 quart slow cooker, and I recommend cutting down the recipe by at least half for a slow cooker that size.

Barbecue Pork On Buns

Reviewed: Feb. 22, 2010
this is a very easy recipe for pulled pork. one caution is not to cook the pork too long. i read in a bbq cookbook (dinosaur bbq) that lean pork gets really tough when it is overcooked, but that brining can help. my boyfriend is a very "discerning" (read: picky) eater, and when he head that we were having pulled pork again, he rushed home from work!

Puff Pastry

Reviewed: Jan. 5, 2010
revision (2/22/10): one tip that i've discovered is to make the butter disc pretty thin (1/2") so that when you wrap it with the dough, it's easier to roll out. refridgerating helps a lot with the butter breaking through... i used a pie edge cutter to trim the edges, and it made the end result even prettier. Original (1/10/10): i've made this recipe twice now,and both times it has been very easy to follow with great results. there are a few reviewers who have said that it needs to be followed exactly -- well, i have to disagree, because i've been lucky to have it look amazing without having the success of rolling out the dough expertly. the butter kept breaking through the flour mixture, and i forgot to refridgerate it, but it's puffed up like a star! clearly beginner pastry chefs should start here :)
