Hazel's Meatballs

Reviewed: Nov. 22, 2009
My whole family loved these! I did not add the sauce until after the meatballs cooked for 40 mins and I drained off the grease. I used organic ground beef, but only because it was on big time sale. I am making these for Thanksgiving appetizers by making the meatballs half the size. These are quickly becoming a monthly meal.

Swiss Cheese 'n' Onion Quiche

This was so easy. I added cooked, crumbled bacon with the onions. Even better the next day!

Caramelized Baked Chicken

Reviewed: Nov. 22, 2009
I would have rated this a five, but the sauce did not get sticky and gooey like I wanted it to. Next time I will take the advice of other reviewers and cook the sauce on the stove first. But everyone loved the wings anyway!

Sweet Polish Sausage

Reviewed: Nov. 24, 2009
The most important step is the simmering for 1 hour! You must dispense with the greasiness of the sausage for this to turn out well. It is nice and sweet. If you don't like sweet so much, use less brown sugar. I served this with Polish Cabbage Noodles (found on this site) and the sweetness of the sausage went together very nicely with the cabbage and onions!

Polish Cabbage Noodles

Reviewed: Nov. 24, 2009
Pretty good. Next time I would not use so much onion. Maybe only one and a sweet, yellow. Red onions have a VERY strong flavor and smell. My kitchen and living room still smell like cooked onions the next day. This pairs very well with the Sweet Polish Sausage recipe found on this site.

Soy Milk Pancakes

Reviewed: Feb. 9, 2010
These pancakes are okay. They did not rise up light and fluffy, but the texture was nice. There was a metallic aftertaste I think must have come from the soy milk.

Oven Roasted Teriyaki Chicken

Reviewed: Feb. 9, 2010
This chicken was so fantastic! I followed the recipe exactly except I bake the chicken for 15 minutes longer because my family likes chicken thighs a little drier. The cold leftover chicken is great made into a chicken salad. This will become a monthly dinner staple.

Pumpkin Cookies VI

Reviewed: Feb. 26, 2010
I added 1/2 cup more flour and 1 cup more oats. They were good, but not very pumpkin tasting. And I baked them for 18 minutes before they were done enough to lift off the baking tray. All in all a good cake-like cookie.

Country Quiche

Yum, Yum, Yum. Just the right amount of everything. Cheesy and chewy and bacony. What else could you ask for in a quiche?

Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Muffins

I personally did not like the taste of chocolate and pumpkin together. But my husband and kids really loved them. Good texture.

Dill Dip III

Reviewed: Feb. 26, 2010
Could use less dill. The taste was way too strong. About half the people liked it and the other half did not.

Homestyle Turkey, the Michigander Way

Reviewed: Oct. 21, 2010
Oh yeah! This was so good. I kept the recipe almost the same, except that my family and I are on a very low sodium diet. So I used unsalted butter and a no-salt seasoning. The bones just pulled right out of the meat. Delicious! Also, there was so much mouth-watering drippings and broth left over, I froze it for further use. Oh and for the last 45 minutes, I took the foil off so the turkey would brown up.

Caribbean Fruity Salsa

Reviewed: Nov. 21, 2010
I made this upon request for my son's 14th birthday. It was a huge hit with the adults, but those pesky teenagers would not even try it. Well, except for my son and he LOVED it. Perect combo of fruitiness and spicyness. I quadrupled the recipe and ended up not having quite enough mango, but it didn't matter. And I had to use canned pineapple because no fresh was available. I used the exact recipe and at first it tasted a little salty. But by the next day, it was perfect. I think it could have even used more jalapenos. This will be on my go to list from now on.

Mock Tea Sangria

Reviewed: Nov. 21, 2010
Made this, upon request, for a Jamaican themed 14 year old boy's birthday party. It was loved by the adults and my son, but the teenagers wouldn't even try it. After it sat for a day, it was thick. We added lemon-lime soda to each glass as we drank it. A glass of this is like having a meal. It will fill you up. The next day, me and the hubby added some gin and had cocktails.

Jay's Jerk Chicken

Reviewed: Nov. 21, 2010
This was made for my son's Jamaican themed 14th birthday party. I don't know how traditional this recipe is, but it made some darn fine chicken. We used all the chicken parts instead of just boneless breasts. I think the boneless breasts would be way too mushy and salty if left overnight in the marinade. My personal preference would be for more spice, but the onion flavor was perfect. We had a bunch left over, because we always make too much food at parties. It freezes extremely well and we had it again for dinner a week later. Reheated very easily.

Raspberry Fudge Brownies

Reviewed: Mar. 5, 2011
All I can say is that I normally do not like chocolate brownies. These I had to run away from or I would have eaten the entire pan. I had to use blackberry preserves instead, but it did not matter. These were like a little bit of nirvana on a plate. Make sure to undercook the brownies just a bit, as it makes them even more irresistable.

Super easy & delicious. I added fresh crushed garlic, but I always do. These meatballs turned out moist and held together very well.

Shrimp Lemon Pepper Linguini

Reviewed: Mar. 5, 2011
I could only give this 4 stars because my son said he thought it was too lemony. I thought it was just right. It's not called Lemon Pepper for nothing. Very tangy and peppery. I did add more liquid ingredients as it seemed to need more sauce. Other than that, this was very satisfying.
