Southern Spicy Fried Chicken

Reviewed: Feb. 21, 2010
This was really good. I soaked the chicken in buttermilk overnight. It didn't seem spicy to me, but it crusted nicely and was very good.

Angel Salad

I love this recipe. I use chopped walnuts though and skip the celery, and sometimes just a touch of sourcream. I get rave reviews every time!

Zucchini Cream Pie

Reviewed: Oct. 1, 2007
This turned out great. I didn't have any evaporated milk so I used one can of sweeted cond. milk (14oz) and skipped the sugar. It was firm and delish. My husband swore he would hate it and I made him taste it. He said it was great! WOw!

Brownie Mix in a Jar III

Reviewed: Nov. 4, 2006
It must have been the pan I used - an 8x8 glass, but these just would not cook through. I sort of remember hearing not to use a square glass pan for brownies. Too bad, they smelled good but the sides were burnt and then one inch in the whole thing was gooy.

Egg Yolk Painted Christmas Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 15, 2003
Great idea! My cookies are very cute! I must admit, my iced cookies do look better, but these are close, and done in 1/4 of the time. I will use this again and again. Make sure you dilute the egg enough, 1/2 tsp of water maybe, if it is too thick it peels.

Easy Spicy Chicken and Rice

Reviewed: Dec. 22, 2004
I really didn't think this was going to be a 5 ***** recipe, but alas my husband and I were both surprised. I didn't even have tomatos with chilis, just plain tomatos. I added a can of green beans and a small can of mushrooms. An extra 1/2 cup of rice and one cup water, and a little onion soup mix (about 1/3 of a pack). It was soo good and easy. Great recipe!! Thanks!

S'More Bars II

Reviewed: Jan. 21, 2011
These were amazing. I liked this recipe because it didn't add anything unnecessary. They taste just like smores.....soooo good. I made two batches for a event, and I didn't bring home one single scrap. I used mini chocolate chips, and it worked great, but going to try this time with melted chocolate. Don't be tempted to use more chocolate than called for, it will through off the balance. Yum...you won't be sorry.

Whipped Shortbread Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 20, 2010
There are two identical recipes on this site for these cookies. Mine were flat as a pancake and crumbled no matter how long I whipped them or how long I baked them. I had made a double batch, so I really didn't want to throw them out. I added another 1/4+ of powdered sugar, some vanilla, 1/4 tsp of salt , and about 1 cup more flour (for a double batch mind you). Then they came out great, still melted in your mouth, and didn't spread all over the place. One star because I wasted two trays before it worked. Recipes should work the first time. I'm an experienced baker, I will not be making this recipe again.

Honey Whole Wheat Bread

Reviewed: Aug. 18, 2007
This was really good. I like the lighter texture than all whole wheat. I added a little extra honey and some cardomom and rose water. Turned out great; the kids love it.

Chocolate Covered Strawberries

Reviewed: Jun. 8, 2004
PERFECT BASE RECIPE!! I used semi-sweet choc. and white choc. I also used the microwave at 70% power for 2-3 min. -- much easier than a double boiler!!! (Wash, dry, and chill strawberries first.) I made about 50 or so of these for my nephew and for a party, and had zero left. I used toothpicks to drizzle the white choc. over the dark, then drew straight lines across the white chocolate for that professional look. Thanks!!!

Baked Whole Pumpkin

Reviewed: Oct. 4, 2004
This was very good. I actually give it 4-4.5 stars for taste, but the presentation is so nice that I had to give it 5 stars. The custard looked a just little greyish to me, and it took longer to cook than expected. I wonder if anyone has used 1/2 milk and 1/2 cream? I'll make it again, it's too pretty not to.

Chocolate Mousse Cake III

Reviewed: May 22, 2003
This was pretty good and fairly easy. Everyone finished their cake, but I felt like something was missing. Maybe a little sherry, or extra chocolate? Maybe with chocolate cake? I don't know, but it was good.

Wow! This is the best recipe I have tried so far! My husbands first words out of his mouth were. "This is really good! This ones a keeper!!" My son really liked it too. I can't wait to make it for company. Many thanks!

Chili Chicken

Reviewed: Jun. 24, 2009
This is great for a quick chicken dinner. I just pour chicken & marinade into a pyrex and bake at 400 til done. The sauce is great over white rice.

Cornbread Salad II

Reviewed: Jun. 26, 2005
This was ok. I brought it to a family reunion and people liked it, but I personally didn't care for it all that much. Just a little too dry and bland. Maybe as one reviewer did I should have used less cornbread. It's different though and pretty.

Creamy Corn Salad

Reviewed: Dec. 21, 2008
This was great. Super easy, fresh tasting and did I say super easy. It was gone in minutes. Use fresh or frozen corn (I use frozen white corn). DO NOT USE CANNED. Canned isn't nearly as good.

Babka III

Reviewed: Mar. 25, 2005
This was good, my first babka. Too much work to make on any regular basis. I also think it should be refridgerated, after only two days (wrapped) it tasted like it may have gone bad. Must be the eggs.

Butterscotch Pudding II

Reviewed: Jan. 25, 2002
Good recipe. Very easy to make. I little runny, but that could have been my fault. Nice smooth flavor. Next time I might use dark brown sugar, and use a little less, it was a bit sweet for me. Husband liked it though, and he hates everything.

Best Ever Popcorn Balls

Reviewed: Oct. 25, 2010
I thought these were ok, not much flavor even with vanilla and salt added. I should go through my Mom's old Betty Crocker cookbook. These pale in comparison to the ones my Mom used to make.

Garlic Mashed Potatoes Secret Recipe

Reviewed: Nov. 14, 2005
Ok, I was in a rush so I made it with instant mashed potatoes and jarred minced garlic. It was delish! I also nuked the garlic for 30 seconds to mello it a bit and skipped the oregano so my kids would eat it. Very good!
