Chicken Breasts with Balsamic Vinegar and Garlic

Reviewed: Mar. 30, 2011
This was really good. I was out of balsamic so I used Sonomic Cabernet Vinegar. Pay attention to the 3 minute per side. Will make this one again! Yum!

S'More Bars II

Reviewed: Jan. 21, 2011
These were amazing. I liked this recipe because it didn't add anything unnecessary. They taste just like smores.....soooo good. I made two batches for a event, and I didn't bring home one single scrap. I used mini chocolate chips, and it worked great, but going to try this time with melted chocolate. Don't be tempted to use more chocolate than called for, it will through off the balance. Yum...you won't be sorry.

Whipped Shortbread Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 20, 2010
There are two identical recipes on this site for these cookies. Mine were flat as a pancake and crumbled no matter how long I whipped them or how long I baked them. I had made a double batch, so I really didn't want to throw them out. I added another 1/4+ of powdered sugar, some vanilla, 1/4 tsp of salt , and about 1 cup more flour (for a double batch mind you). Then they came out great, still melted in your mouth, and didn't spread all over the place. One star because I wasted two trays before it worked. Recipes should work the first time. I'm an experienced baker, I will not be making this recipe again.

Best Ever Popcorn Balls

Reviewed: Oct. 25, 2010
I thought these were ok, not much flavor even with vanilla and salt added. I should go through my Mom's old Betty Crocker cookbook. These pale in comparison to the ones my Mom used to make.

Grandma Johnson's Scones

Great base recipe. I made apricot almond (chopped dried apricots, almonds, & sub'd some almond meal for some flour) scones and mini chocolate chip scones from this recipe. Yum!!

Kentucky Banana Pudding

I mashed the banana's with a touch of fruit fresh, and added them after they were off the heat. Yummy!

Sweet Dinner Rolls

Reviewed: Feb. 23, 2010
These were really good, a little plain, but they turned out well. Follow recipe exactly. These would make good cinnamon rolls. Makes a huge batch.

Southern Spicy Fried Chicken

Reviewed: Feb. 21, 2010
This was really good. I soaked the chicken in buttermilk overnight. It didn't seem spicy to me, but it crusted nicely and was very good.

French Brioche

Reviewed: Feb. 18, 2010
This turned out beautifully. I used 1/2 bread flour because I ran out of APF, and unsalted butter, so it could have used more salt. Which basically means it will be better the next time and it was pretty darn good already with the subs.

Cream of Celery Soup

Reviewed: Feb. 18, 2010
My husband thought this was just ok. I added more salt and it was pretty darn good. I cut the recipe down to 6 servings. Our dinner guests loved it and finished every drop. Amazing what a difference a little more salt makes. I added a touch of cornstarch because it was too thin.

Best Ever Caramel Apple Crisp

Reviewed: Oct. 25, 2009
My husband...my husband...who doesn't like dessert in general, who first turned his nose up at this and said. "Oh, uhhh...I'll try it a little later." Uh huh, sure...I thought. Well, he finally he brought some over to the couch, with a little vanilla ice cream on it, and slowly began to eat. He didn't say a word til he was finished, so I thought at best I would get an. "It was ok." But low and behold. He looked down at it and said. "Sally! This is really, REALLY good!" I nearly fell over. So there ya go. The only thing I changed is that I added 1 tbs of melted butter to the apples, and used caramel sheets (the kind you wrap apples in, they worked great). Happy Baking!

I doubled the powdered sugar. Really good!! Not for piping, but great for a red velvet filling.

Slow Cooker Chicken and Dumplings

Okay as a base maybe but really lacks flavor. I added some celery, carrots, garlic but I should have added some spices or something.

Chili Chicken

This is great for a quick chicken dinner. I just pour chicken & marinade into a pyrex and bake at 400 til done. The sauce is great over white rice.

Exquisite Pizza Sauce

Reviewed: Mar. 24, 2009
Sorry, but way too sweet and overspiced. I just wanted a nice normal pizza sauce, not some wacky creation that my teen would have come up with. Should have known from the ingredient list, but the reviews were so high. Pass on this one.

Buttery Rolls

Reviewed: Mar. 22, 2009
These were good. Hubby liked them, but I just thought they were ok. Sort of like a heart attack in a roll with all that butter, then watching my family put more butter on the roll, then honey. Yikes. They were a bit heavy for my taste, so I probably won't make them again, but the recipe turned out fine.

Tres Leches Cake

Reviewed: Mar. 22, 2009
This was really good and not hard. I like that this recipe separates the eggs for a true sponge cake. Remember to discard 1cup of the milk as the recipe states. I made it for poker night. Surprisingly, no one had heard of it before, so I didn't think they would like it, but was a BIG hit!

Original Chex® Party Mix

Reviewed: Jan. 8, 2009
Very good. I used the baking method, I just don't see how this could turn out well in a microwave. It's not the one i remember from childhood, but close.
