Tropical Coconut Black Bean Soup

Reviewed: May 11, 2012
This is possibly the worst recipe I have tried so far on Allrecipes.com. If I could give it zero stars, I would. The peas completely overpowered the rest of the flavors, including the coconut milk. I could not doctor it up to make it better. No one liked it in my house and we are not picky eaters and love trying new foods. Next time I try to make a "tropical" black bean soup I will definitely leave out the peas. I have heard of adding plantains, which sounds much better. Those might overpower the coconut, but they would be much better than peas!

Mom's Pie Crust

Reviewed: Nov. 23, 2011
This is a good starting recipe, but the amount of ice water is not accurate. Also, to make flaky crust you must not touch the dough with your hands. I have found that if you keep from touching it and freeze it when done for a day then defrost the next, it is nice and flaky. The colder you can keep the ingredients the better. I always put the flour in the fridge before hand with the bowl so everything is nice and cold

Coconut Macaroons II

These are fabulous. Much better than store bought. Made them as the recipe says. Didn't have a problem with them falling apart as I pressed them together.

Spiced Butternut Squash Soup

Reviewed: Sep. 10, 2010
I did not enjoy the soup. The onion and the sherry completely overpowers the sweet delicate taste of the butternut squash. I also don't think the allspice complements the squash either. I will not make this again.

Whole-Wheat Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Sep. 1, 2010
This cookie recipe is fabulous! I substituted all whole wheat pastry flour and they still turned out delicious. You can't even tell they are whole wheat. This will definately become a staple in our house. Oh, and one way to keep them soft is to put an apple in the cookie jar with the cookies.

Shrimp and Crab Bisque

Reviewed: May 31, 2010
I couldn't give this 5 stars because after following the directions in the end you had the texture of an al dante onion. I really believe you should cook the onion in the butter before you add the flour so that it is soft and undetectable. Other than that it was really good. After tasting it I added a pinch of cayenne pepper to add a little kick and it tasted just like a bisque I used to get up in the DC area.

Spicy Chicken and Sweet Potato Stew

Reviewed: Dec. 31, 2009
This is really good. I used fresh corn and put it in about 10 minutes before the whole thing was done and it turned out great! You can definately add more heat to this as we didn't think it was that spicy.

Chocolate Chip Cheese Ball

Reviewed: Dec. 28, 2009
This tastes fabulous! Just like a new york cheese cake, but in a ball and you don't have to bake it. I followed the directions exactly and it doesn't need more sugar if it's supposed to taste like a cheesecake.

Chicken Cordon Bleu II

Reviewed: Dec. 19, 2009
This is really good. We have tried cooking it both ways- in the oven and by the recipe and it pretty much comes out the same. I think it's really important to get a good quality swiss cheese, not just the pre-sliced store brand kind. Will definately have it again

Flat Iron Steak with Balsamic Reduction

Reviewed: Dec. 13, 2009
This was really good. We served it as a main dish, but I think next time I will make more of the balsamic reduction and put the meat on top of a cobb salad. Great!
