I started cooking when I was in elementary school. I remember cooking a dinner for my boyfriend and his family, I think I was in 5th or 6th grade. Now that I think back to the meal, it was not that good, but just about everyone ate what I made.
I won first place in Girl Scouts, again I think it was 5th or 6th grade. I made a chocolate peanut butter cake with a crumb topping. I have always enjoyed baking, but not so much with entrees. I often surprise myself with recreations of recipes.
I have yet to find a Fruitcake recipe like my grandma used to make. YES, I like Fruitcake:o)
I am very lucky to have married a man that likes to cook!!!!!
I have been teaching my children to cook since they could stand on the stool and watch, and I LOVE IT!!!!!
My favorite things to cook
Sweet Potatoe Casserole,
Pumpkin Pie w/Struesel Topping,
Pineapple Cheese Ball,
Patsy's Rigatoni Sorrentino
My favorite family cooking traditions
Just about all the same things listed above.
My cooking triumphs
I often try substituting applesauce for oils, with great success. Although, baked items are a little tough.
I like to substitute sugars (brown & white) with Splenda sugars. Again, with great success.
I VERY rarely follow a recipe to the 'T'. I like to cook by my sense of smell. I almost always have a winner of a 'secret' recipe.
