Mother was newspaper president's secretary not much interested in cooking, I learned to cook. Wives (2) glad to let me hog the kitchen. Okay with me I like deciding the menu and haunting the markets.
My favorite things to cook
Main dishes, there are so many I love. All meats, many cultures. Made my first paella last week. We ate it all week. Leeks are looking good, thinking cold soup. Ran the squash gamut this year, it was wonderful. Love all the wonderful contributions on this site as well as the printing with comments! The advice and recipe suggestions are sterling.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My Dad learned to cook in french New Orleans, my step-mother a BA in home econ, they taught me so many critical steps and tricks. Dad's favorite snacks fresh green apple sprinkled with garlic salt also really hot fresh radish dredged in butter and dipped in sugar (sound gross but you will eat a couple).
My cooking triumphs
When I follow the recipe.
My cooking tragedies
When I experiment in different directions simultaneously and have to throw it out.
