Apple Pie by Grandma Ople

Reviewed: Jun. 17, 2008
Easy and tastes great, even warmed up the next day. I would suggest reducing the bake time by about 10 minutes though, my crust was very overdone.

Portuguese Pork with Red Peppers

Reviewed: May 23, 2008
Fool proof recipe - I didn't marinate, the pork chops were still partly frozen when I cubed them. I didn't have peppercorns or corse salt, so used regular pepper and sea salt. I even forgot the lemon juice at the end and it was REALLY GOOD. I can't imagine how great it will be when I actually follow the recipe! (I did use the 1 cup chicken broth in addition to the wine that another user suggested)

Mama D's Italian Bread

Reviewed: Feb. 4, 2008
This was my first attempt at making bread EVER! Was very easy, followed all instructions exactly and they came out perfectly. I did use the other reviewer’s suggestion of spritzing water on the loaves every few minutes for the first part of the baking.

Carne Adovada

Reviewed: Feb. 3, 2008
My husband and I grew up in New Mexico and this is exactly right! The trick is to use lard!! I doubled the recipe for a 4 pound pork tenderloin, as we like extra sauce. I cubed the meat, put it in the icebox overnight and then cooked in the Crockpot for 8 hours on low.

Authentic Mexican Tortillas

Reviewed: Feb. 3, 2008
The taste of these were right, but they came out stiff and got more so as they cooled. They were like big crackers overnight.

Crawfish Chowder

Reviewed: Jan. 7, 2008
Was very good and easy to make, but thicker than I would like. I think I will try using equal parts milk and half/half next time.

Pecan Tarts

Reviewed: Jan. 3, 2008
I made these in a mini muffin pan as suggested by another reviewer - they came out well, however I had a lot of trouble with the crusts. I used pre-made pie crusts and used a wide coffee cup to cut out circles. They fit into the tin prefectly, but when I put them in the oven to brown them slightly before putting in the pie filling the crusts shrunk a lot! Just thought I would add as a caution for the next cook that is still learning!

Green Bean Bundles

Reviewed: Jan. 3, 2008
I made these for Thanksgiving and they were great. The sauce really is the best part! I did not cook the beans long enough though, so they were very crunchy. Next time will need to cook them until they are almost done and then put them in the oven.

I think I must have made this incorrectly - it turned out bitter and mushy.

Brown Sugar Meatloaf

Reviewed: Jan. 3, 2008
I did not like this - but then again I am not a meatloaf eater. My husband ate the leftovers though, so he liked it well enough.

Chicken with Green Peppers in Black Bean Sauce

Reviewed: Dec. 5, 2007
This recipe was excellent! Very easy to make and tasted great that night and for left overs the next day. I left out the cilantro (as I hate it) and only used 1 green pepper.

Wonderful and easy!! Leave overnight in the pan to soak and outside on the counter, the sauce gets too thick in the icebox.
