What It's Like to Live Now, with Gratitude

Just Thinking. . .

Kudo's to All Recipes, and I'm completely serious.
Sure, it was funny (irritating) this morning (sort of) to unwittingly go to my Recently Viewed, and try to call up the cabbage soup, only to get . . .well, you know, that chipotle thing. Hmmm, try again, ok the bread. . .same thing. . .go to the buzz and see. . .20+ posts about it, quickly followed by two more pages. What are people coming here for? RECIPES!!! You know this when they can't GET them because they will tell you about it on the Buzz.
I LOVED seeing new faces there! I wish those folks would post more often. Since they don't, I then wonder if they review. That's what I miss about the revolving reviews. So that even if they didn't post on the Buzz, if they reviewed, I could see new recipes. What someone else cooked, whether they liked it, if they tweaked it.
Yeah, I DO come here for the recipes. But, I come here more for the community.
This whole experience set me to thinking about a book I read almost 20 years ago called "The Fifth Sacred Thing" by Starhawk. It's about food, but more than that. When we "feed" we do more than eat. We share ideas, thoughts. Our "spirit" is connected with our food. There is POWER in that.
Come share my table.
One act of courage can save the world.

Amen Lady Sparkle - Amen.

Thanks for posting this LS. Yes, we are here for recipes but more importantly we are here for the community of foodie friends. People helping people.

And, of course, there's always [[I miss the revolving reviews, too.]]
Dec. 15, 2011 12:26 pm
Well, what i was trying to say was the -- chipolte thang -- and now all of a sudden it gets all shy. (!)
Dec. 15, 2011 2:50 pm
I was finding and exploring recipes this morning and had no trouble. Lucky? Maybe. I did see on the buzz that there was a lot of trouble, though.
Dec. 15, 2011 2:52 pm
Yes, it is for the recipes and community!!! I've got 2 recipes to share with you :)(umm, stop in and visit please :) One of my recipes, I tweaked into my own and it worked because I read so many reviews. I think AR is still having techno problems cause my earlier post dissappeared. Oh well, I'm sure the staff is trying to fix the problem :)

Maybe that is really why people got so upset, they felt cut off from the source of much pleasure and sense of community. Probably wasn't really the technical issue of accessing a recipe. What do you think?
Dec. 15, 2011 3:50 pm
I agree.. I love the recipes but come here more when i feel lonely or bored or need to vent or just need to feel a bit cheery.. the community here is awesome.. :)

Thank you luv2cook. :) B'Nana, my REAL LIFE experiences with ALL the folks I've met from AR have been so overwhelmingly positive, that I consider almost everyone here a friend I haven't met yet. ((Hugs)). Hezzy! How nice to see you and your perky red umbrella :). . .LOL I miss those revolving reviews, seriously! And it sure wasn't being "shy" this morning, LOL. . .I mean that chipotle "thang". LOL!!! Mike Harvey! I'm really happy you made it to a meet and greet this year. . .I think you just might be livin' right. Thanks! Cat ~ thank you for the "heads up" and the great recipes! Yum!! covergirl. . .you could be on to something! :) Hugs, Cuppycake! Thank you! Peace and Wonder to you all this Christmas! XOXOXO

I've only been active on the blogging site for a couple of months. I love all the help, recipes, and info. I get on the Buzz and the variety of stories in the Blogging Community. I am still having some trouble with the way the AR website works.-like I have written an entire blog and then I lose it, or somedays I can't upload photos. I guess I will just learn as I go.

I think I know why they don't have the revolving reviews, but I wish they would find a way to replace them. I, too, found so many really great recipes that way.

Well sorry for the double post, but my cat just plopped down on the keyboard. (Blowing fur off the keyboard...)
Dec. 15, 2011 7:38 pm
Oh, how I, too, miss the revolving reviews!! It was interesting this AM...esp amazing to me were the people that apparently don't read previous posts (they would have readily seen there were some technical difficulties going on). This truly IS an amazing place, isn't it?

Well said LS. I originally came (at first) for the recipes; being a non-cook and all. Then someone gave me some good advice and then another helped with a recipe and well, now... it's mostly about the communtity of folks that I come. Oh yes, I still do my share of recipe searching, but it's alla-ya-all that I really come here for. Love and Hugs to you Miss Sparkle Britches!

Hi LS! As Candice just said, I started to come to AR to find a recipe, but I found so much more! This community of cooks and bakers is wonderful. All the helpful advice, a shoulder to cry on when needed, and the laughs -- well, they are the best. And we learn so much about all areas of the country, and our neighbors to the north, and around the world. I love when Petey shows up here-I have to sit right down to read her blogs and live an entirely different life thru her writings. I look forward to the new year and perhaps the chance to meet a few of these fine folks from AR. A blessed Christmas to you LS, and all the AR folks!

Welcome Lela! Thank you! Yes, I've gone around and around uploading pictures also, mostly I have to re-size them, which means using another program that sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. LOL! Learning is ALWAYS good :) BSM, let's just put that on our AR wish list "revolving reviews" :) Love you too gderr!! Hoping to make it! :) MB!! :) Those pesky kitties! :) Love Ya! chrisk, LOL! Yes, I believe there were over three pages of "what's wrong with your recipe site" LOL. . .that was good for a laugh. Candice! I came for a recipe too and then started fiddling around on the site, found the buzz, and I was gray but everyone hopped right in to help me turn blue and then I was gifted my blue star!! It was only the beginning of the MANY wonderful gifts I've received as a result of this GREAT community of folks! ((Hugs)) scooter, I'm looking forward to meeting you at an Indiana meet and greet! You're so right! I like GoodEatz blogs about New Zealand, also. And barbarak's about living on a boat. . . fascinating and better than a novel because it's REAL!! Peace and Wonder this Christmas folks!! :)

If anyone is interested, Starhawk is turning her novel into a movie. This link will take you a video presentation of her talking about it to raise funds. All funds have been raised, but the video is really good! http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/fifthsacredthing/the-fifth-sacred-thing?ref=card

About Me
Living with two grown children (19 and 24)and two dogs. Presently working on a web page for e-commerce.
My favorite things to cook
Anything, really. What do you like to eat? :)
My favorite family cooking traditions
I'm not sure we have traditions, just great gatherings food and love.
My cooking triumphs
I taught myself to make Danish Pastry about 20 yrs. ago. It wasn't as hard as I thought it would be and ohhh so yummy !!
My cooking tragedies
The very first time I tried to make bread. . . I baked clever little bricks. They LOOKED like bread. . . very deceiving. . .played with them in the back yard (I was 15. . . the dogs "fetched" them, but even they couldn't eat them.)
