I have been married for nearly 35 years. My husband and I have both worked in education or in ministry of some sort for nearly all of those years. We have 3 children and 7 grandchildren. Until about a year ago, I was the care-giver for my mother. During that time I had to leave teaching. The last year and a half, I have been working at a school as head cook. Not only do I cook the main entree from scratch, I also make homemade soup for the salad bar.
My favorite things to cook
I love cooking just about everything, but lately, I have been getting very creative with the soup I make. Baking is also a passion of mine, and I have been creating and designing wedding cakes now for 30 years.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I love that my kids have all become excellent cooks. My family has now divided up the work and I am not the only one who has to cook. We always have mashed potatoes, baked beans, and apple pie at our family gatherings.
My cooking triumphs
The wedding I catered, last January, had 400 people to cook for. One of the dishes requested by the couple was baked salmon. I had never cooked it before and it is very expensive. My son in law, who is a chef, helped me and taught me exactly what to do. It turned out perfectly with the capers, onions and whipped cream cheese along side it!
My cooking tragedies
I guess my greatest cooking tragedy was when 2x as many people showed up for a reception as had been RSVP-ed and we ran out of food!! It has never happened to me since, I always plan for more, now.
