Strawberry Cake from Scratch

Reviewed: Jul. 22, 2012
Great flavor, beautiful color. I used this for cupcakes using another reviewers baking temp and time, and they came out PERFECT. I will definitely use this recipe again.

Mint Chocolate Cake

Reviewed: Jul. 22, 2012
Almost exactly like my mom's! She uses mint extract instead of peppermint. I like hers more, but it's not a huge difference. Also, I doubled the frosting. I like a nice thick frosting layer. Yum!!!

Barley Burger Stew

Reviewed: Feb. 9, 2012
This tastes just like the barley burger stew my mom makes. I followed the instructions exactly, except I chopped up the whole stalk of celery instead of adding just a 1/4 c, and it tasted great. This recipe is a winner. Making it again tonight.

Mocha Coffee

Reviewed: Mar. 13, 2011
Palatable, but the cocoa powder makes it gritty. I wonder if a chocolate syrup wouldn't suit this better. It's easy, and maybe I'll make it again. But maybe not.

Cocoa Oatmeal Cookies

They're ok, not terrible, not amazing. Just ok. I kind of expected more... maybe with some of the others' suggestions these could be improved.

Best Brownies

Reviewed: Jan. 16, 2011
I am so pleased with this recipe. And the gross pic with the sprinkles on the brownie does not do them justice. I've made the recipe three times, just as it's written (except the frosting. I don't like frosted brownies), and they are wonderful. Buttery, with a pleasant saltiness, and absolutely perfect. One friend said they taste like brownie mix brownies. I think they're better because there's no chemical aftertaste. My mom and I had a tried and true one-bowl brownie recipe, and this is better. I make it all in the saucepan I melt the butter in, and yup. Good. UPDATE: Made the frosting because my dad likes frosted brownies, and yuck. People have complained that it's "too sweet" and it because of the honey, which I would just omit all together. Just no good in a frosting. Also, with the ingredients as stated, this never came together and was powdery and crumbly. Is that right? I added a little milk so that it was usable and we'll see. Hopefully it doesn't ruin the brownies.

Creamy Hot Cocoa

Reviewed: Dec. 24, 2010
I make this consistently throughout the winter season. I like to have some on hand in the fridge for when guests come over. I like to take it to work. I add some eggnog instead of half and half when eggnog is in the house. Sometimes I use less sugar, and it's just as good. This is a great, versatile recipe that makes the season brighter. And now I don't have to be disappointed by crummy packaged hot cocoa. Thank you SO much.

Strawberry Dream Cake I

Reviewed: Jun. 15, 2010
Delicious cake. I used a chocolate cake mix (the recipient wanted a chocolate cake) and it was fabulous. Very beautiful with the white frosting. However, I was transporting the cake, and because the icing did not hold well, the upper half of the cake slid right off. I was quite devastated until everyone clipped the cake in minutes anyway. Will definitely make again. Will have to figure out how to make frosting hold up (because it really is scrumptious frosting).

Cream Cheese Frosting II

Reviewed: Dec. 11, 2009
Just perfect for a 9x9 carrot cake for my mom's birthday. Her and her sister (big carrot cake fans) raved about the easy homemade frosting. A very thick consistency makes it seem super decadent, but it wasn't hard to frost and didn't rip at the cake. My favorite part--tasting it off the beaters!

Taco Seasoning I

Reviewed: Dec. 11, 2009
This was easy and perfect for ground beef tacos. I would like to try it on chicken as well. I fed these tacos (topped with mexican white cheese and salsa in corn tortillas) to my very hispanic boyfriend, and he was muy happy. I will totally use this recipe again, and will probably follow the suggestion of others and make a big batch of it to use whenever. I used the whole ounce of seasoning for one pound of ground beef.
