About this Cook
When this picture was taken, I was sitting outside on the balcony of the hotel with my two best friends - my sister & my other best friend, watching the sunrise, both amazing cooks. The only thing better than seeing the sunrise is seeing the smiles on the faces when I've cooked for my family & friends and they enjoyed the meal. It's so rewarding to cook for people I love -- especially since cooking is one of my favorite things to do. And I can test new recipes and they love being the test subjects! Passing down recipes & pictures is one way we keep our family's memories of our journey through life alive. Ours was a military family and we moved around a good deal. We were blessed to live in Virginia, Maryland, Alaska, North Carolina, Germany, and Texas - and we traveled to see many friends made during our years as a military family. Great friends were made & recipes exchanged as we moved around for over 20 years. And all those received after we settled here in the Commonwealth of V
My favorite things to cook
Anything baked - love it! And the good comfort foods I remember from my childhood. Of course Italian and Mexican are great. My very favorite is southern cooking - taking those great recipes and adding my twist or if I'm feeling nostalgic, just like Grandma, Mom, aunts prepared it. :)
My favorite family cooking traditions
This would be any holiday. Bake the Virginia ham, roast the turkey & make all the side dishes and desserts. Sticking with traditional foods our family always has at the time. I bake a lot to give as gifts and make fudge at Christmas. I always make my pumpkin, pecan, & sweet potato pies with Grandma's brandy.
My cooking triumphs
Thanksgiving dinner for 26 in a two-bedroom apartment in Germany. What a day and what a memory. I worked all day and all night before and then had all the soldiers there helping that morning - watching them learn to mince and chop was interesting. Best dressing they'd had in their lives because they made it. This was definitely a triumph. Anything I cook - or teach someone else to cook - for another person's enjoyment is a triumph for me.
My cooking tragedies
LOL! When I made spinach lasagna for dinner and told my children that I'd eat some first and show them that it was good. Then I took a bite - and I looked at them and said, "Okay, give me the telephone, kids, we're ordering pizza." It was horrible!

Baked Omelet Squares
Great! Made this for dinner. My son wanted scrambled eggs and then I saw this so made it. I used green peppers instead of the jalapeno peppers and some chopped honey ham I had in the freezer; I sauteed both of these with the onions. Then I followed the recipe until the eggs were added. Once they were in the dish, I gently sprinkled about 1/4 grated Colby Jack cheese & some chopped Roma tomatoes on top. He loved it! Thanks so much for posting the recipe. (Oh! I halved the recipe as it was only two of us, for the whole thing, use 1/2 cup cheese on top.)

Orange Balls II
These are delicious. Thank you for sharing your recipe. When I made my second batch, I used my grandmother's cooking secret -- I added a shot of brandy to the mixture. The brandy enhances the flavor - myself, my family, and my friends loved them.
