Turkey Salisbury Steak

Reviewed: May 4, 2014
This was very good. I used 2 - 16 oz packages of ground turkey. If I were to use 1-1/2 Lbs I think it would be a little too salty. Thanks for the very good recipe. Good way to use the ground turkey which is on sale often - $2 per lb! I served with mashed potatoes, corn and salad. Will use again!

Hungarian Mushroom Soup

Reviewed: Apr. 28, 2014
Excellent flavor! The flavors remind me very much of my hungarian goulash. My suggestions are to skip the salt at the end, use hungarian paprika, skip the flour (doesn't need it with the milk and sour cream) and possibly add ground beef, tiny meatballs, stewing beef or chicken plus a handful or two of cooked rice for a complete meal. We like our protein. A salad and bread wouldn't cut it, and we're gluten free.

Sesame Beef

Reviewed: Apr. 26, 2014
Thank you! I read reviews and reduced sugar by 25% and added a few shakes of red pepper flakes. I also did not have sesame seeds but did have sesame oil, so substituted 1/2 of the oil with sesame oil. I imagine this duplicated the flavor. Added fresh green beans at the end, although any fresh veggie would do. Yes, round steak can be a little tough and needs longer simmering for tenderness.

Incredibly Cheesy Turkey Meatloaf

Reviewed: Feb. 18, 2014
Sale on ground turkey this week! I made this and just changed up two of the ingredients. I used what I had on hand. I used shredded mozzarella instead of colby and pizza sauce instead of ketchup on top. I added italian seasoning in the meatloaf to make it more italian. My family said this was one of the best things I've made. I consider myself a good cook and cook daily for 20 plus years...so this is a compliment! My husband is gluten free and thought it tasted like pizza. Thank you Brooke for the recipe.

Chicken With Mushrooms

Reviewed: Feb. 16, 2014
Thank you KIMPAT for this lovely recipe. My family said it was one of the best dinners I've served. I made some changes according to what I had on hand, other reviews and just some on my own. Basically the same recipe though. I used italian breadcrumbs, sautéed the mushrooms and added finely chopped onion and garlic and a splash of red wine before baking. I used portabella mushrooms and thick steak cut mushrooms (pre-cut, had on hand) . I set the chicken on top of the the thick steak cut mushrooms because it didn't make sense to set the chicken in broth after crisping. I used provolone because that is what I had. Delicious! This is special and worthy of a meal to serve special guests or a special day. Thanks!

City Chicken

Reviewed: Feb. 10, 2014
Not how I remember City Chicken but this is delicious and easy compared to flour, egg, bread crumb dipping and skewering. Thank you for this simple recipe. I didn't skewer it. I placed the cubes in a 9 x 13 and added broth. It made a really nice gravy. Served with mashed potato and hot veggie. Yum

Barbecue Ribs

Reviewed: Feb. 9, 2014
Made these tonight. Only change I made was I baked them in oven because it is 0 deg outside. They were wonderful and the family says they are the best ribs they ever had. My husband says this sauce would be great on a meatloaf. I used "Heinz" chili sauce. Next time I will use authentic brand from Mexican isle. Thank you so much for this recipe. I will use it for many years. I will NEVER use a bottled bbq sauce again...YUCK!...ok, maybe on a burger. EDIT: I'Ve always pre-boiled my ribs - three times now baking them, I will never boil again. I believe the boiling removes too much flavor and makes them sort of rubbery.

Two Ingredient Pumpkin Cake

Three stars for flavor and texture - 5 stars for simplicity and healthier version. ....equals 4 stars given. Made as cake. It was ok. Second time made them as cookies and added a cup of chocolate chips. My kids liked them and they are a little healthier. Thanks. ** funny people are changing it to what the recipe calls for on the box...duh :) The recipe was changed for a reason.

Sauerkraut Soup

Reviewed: Jan. 8, 2014
Reminds me of my Mom's sauerkraut and dumplings. After reading reviews, I decided to make it more thick by leaving out some of the milk and had it over mashed potatoes. I used a good quality smoked sausage from local meat company. Talk about comfort food on a very cold winter evening! My husband and two son's really enjoyed it. I will make this again.

Melt-In-Your-Mouth Meat Loaf

Reviewed: Jun. 15, 2013
I used ground sirloin. I would not make a meatloaf or any other recipe with ground beef in the crockpot unless if it is with ground sirloin....its just too greasy using a ground chuck or hamburger or even round. Nice recipe for summer in the crockpot! Thanks.

Slow-Cooker Posole

Reviewed: Jan. 8, 2013
This was really good! After researching the dish, I served it with tortilla chips and garnished each bowl with sliced radish, green onion, chopped cabbage, chopped cilantro, diced avocado and finished with a squeeze of lime. It tasted like something I would eat in a special mexican restaurant. My whole family loved it. It tastes healthy and is refreshing with added garnishes. Nice winter meal but different from other soups and stews. **I have used several brands of enchilada sauce for various recipes. I'm thinking that could make it or ruin it depending on what brand you use. I like yellow can Old El Paso brand. I used one mild/one hot...no cayenne pepper cause I didn't want it to be too hot. 5 stars!!

Special Buttercream Frosting

Reviewed: Oct. 25, 2012
There are a million recipes for buttercream...well not a million :) I was attracted to this recipe because of the use of real cream. I did however, use butter for 1/2 of the shortening. The shortening gives a fluffy white texture (stuff inside a Hostess cake) but lets face it, shortening is not a real food. It is a manufactured processed item that survives on the shelf forever. Next time I make it I will try all butter and cream (hey! thats what is in the name!) and see how it holds up.

Crab Spread I

Reviewed: Dec. 1, 2011
I make this at Christmas. I would like to share a prep direction with you all how I prepare it. Put cream cheese in freezer for 15-20 minutes. Take out and cut the top right and left angles to make a Christmas tree out the of cream cheese. Take the two pcs and put them together to form a rectangle. Then add them to bottom of tree for a trunk. You have a Christmas tree. Follow the rest of the directions and serve on a flat decorative plate.
