Double Crust Bean Pie

Reviewed: Apr. 24, 2011
WOW!!! We loved this! I only rate recipes that I have tried according to the original and I was very pleased with this one. It had really great taste and even my 2-year old loved it. It was also very filling. We didn't eat more than 1 and 1/2 slices each. The only thing I can say that I would like to fix is that there is definitely room for more filling since I used a big pie dish. Next time I will try a few other suggestions from other reviewers for additional ingredients. Right off the bat I was thinking of just adding a second can of beans or some re-fried beans. Thanks Sal for a wonderful recipe - this one's a keeper! We are hoping to be missionaries to Haiti and I'm sure I can tailor this recipe with ingredients from there!

Roast Leg of Lamb

Reviewed: Apr. 24, 2011
We eat this lamb all the time. My husband gets excited when I'm planning to make it. Super easy to prepare and comes out perfect every time. We use fresh rosemary from the garden. I just dry it and pulverize it in my Magic bullet. Yummy!

Moist Holiday Honeycake

Reviewed: Oct. 1, 2011
Wonderful! I made this cake exactly as directed. It was easy and came out of the bundt pan beautifully. I only wish there was a glaze that went with it - I wasn't sure what would go best so I didn't glaze it. Everyone at work loved it and I got to tell them about what Rosh Hashanah is all about! Thanks for a wonderful recipe - will be making again!

Cheddar Spirals

Reviewed: Nov. 25, 2011
VERY TASTY!!! I made it exactly as written and it was fabulous. This is great comfort food but not something you should make while dieting. Great for a busy family with kids! Thanks Heidi for a "keeper"!

Stuffed Shells IV

Reviewed: Apr. 24, 2011
This is my husband's favorite dish. It is wonderful as-is but I will usually use twice the spinach for nutritional reasons (we have a 2-year old boy). I always have enough shells to store in both a 9x13 and an 8x8 dish. I freeze the smaller dish for a later day. Always comes out WONDERFUL!!! Thanks Barbara for a family favorite!

Lentils and Rice with Fried Onions (Mujadarrah)

Reviewed: Aug. 8, 2011
WOWSERS! Such a simple recipe - I was skeptical before making it but I have been wanting to add lentils to our diet since they are such a good source of protein and fiber plus the reviews were encouraging. So glad I made it! The flavors mingle BEAUTIFULLY in this dish -the hearty rice/lentil mix, the tangy sour cream and sweet onions (I carmalized them by cooking them in the oil for 30 minutes like a previous reviewer suggested). I also had some chicken broth to use up so I used 2 cans in place of the water for the rice/lentils. I still had to add over a cup of water though. My 3-year old even scarfed this up! This is a big winner. Thanks Melissa!!!

Apple Cider Glazed Doughnuts

Reviewed: Nov. 6, 2011
These are amazing! The recipe is easy to follow and I followed it exactly. This is my first time making doughnuts and everything was so easy. My 3-year old helped me knead the dough which is very easy to work with. He also helped roll it out and cut out the doughnuts. I used a deep fryer which I set to the exact temperature. I dipped the doughnuts in the apple cider mix before setting them onto a wire rack. My son absolutely inhaled his and half of mine! Excellent, Excellent. THANKS! Will be making these again!

Slow Cooker Pierogie Casserole

Reviewed: Jul. 29, 2011
OK, now I followed these directions to a "T" except that I halved the batch and good thing because my large crock pot would never hold it all. Glad I only did a half-batch because they came out terrible. The pierogies came out like rubber. My husband who is not picky ate them like a good sport but asked how much more we had left to eat (with a frown). I will not even try this recipe with improvisions. The pierogies taste way better cooked on their own with a salad and meat dish. Sorry, this gets a thumbs down from me.
