I used to think that since I am an Eastern European woman I KNOW how to cook without learning it. And then I would cook little disasters. So I threw away my ego and started to follow recipes and everybody loves everything I make. My husband and I love to cook for our friends and so we throw a dinner party at least once a week. Now I even have the timing down so everything is fresh and warm on the table.
My favorite things to cook
I know how to make palacinky (czech version of crepes) since I was 10, so now I can flip two pans at the same time, which looks pretty impressive. But other wise I love to cook everything, I like to spice stuff, because I feel like a witch and I love to bake because I feel like snow white :)
My favorite family cooking traditions
We bake a lot of cookies on Christmas. My sister makes these perfect crescents and I am the cookie cutter person, my mom lately kinda just tries the cookies when they are done. But that's fine, she used to do everything by herself when we were little. Once we had 36! different kinds of cookies I remember putting chocolate glaze on them until 8 am and then falling asleep under the Christmas tree.
My cooking triumphs
I have to challenge myself more to call anything a triumph.
My cooking tragedies
Loads of burning, because I used to do billion things at the same time and not paying attention. Bad timing for dinner parties - like we would have the beef but the potatoes would be still cooking etc.
