The Best Rolled Sugar Cookies

Reviewed: Nov. 11, 2009
The cookies taste good. The problem I had with this recipe is that I wanted my cookies to be flat. I did some research and found that 400F is too high of a temperature and make the cookies puffy. If you want nice flat cookies to decorate decrease the oven temperature to 350F and bake until the edges are golden brown. That way the butter has time to melt and spread the cookie out a little and it make a nice flat surface to decorate. It also holds the shape of the cookie cutter better making nice points where there were points instead of rounded puffy edges. I used a combination of flour and powdered sugar to roll out the cookies because they were just too sticky without a little more flour. Be careful not to use too much flour or you will get a tough cookie. I also made the dough, shaped it into flattened squares and put it in the fridge overnight. I took one square out at a time to roll and cut. I took the excess and put it back in the fridge to cool and then took it out and used it later.

Slow Cooker Oatmeal

Reviewed: Jun. 14, 2009
Definitely use steel cut oats and 4 cups of water. To keep it from sticking to the crock pot use a crock pot liner (they are like oven bags but made for the crock pot, you can find them at walmart near the ziploc bags). I add cinnamon and a peeled and diced apple to mine and in the morning brown sugar and milk on top into individual servings. It's really nice to have hot oatmeal without the hassel, especially steel cut oats.

Emily's Famous Marshmallows

Reviewed: Mar. 29, 2009
This first time I made this the marshmallows didn't turn out. But that was my fault because I didn't mix the marshmallows long enough and I didn't have a candy thermometer. I strongly recommend buying a candy thermometer to make this recipe. The second time I made these they turned out wonderfully. Everybody devoured these marshmallows. This recipe would be great for making your own marshmallow chicks at easter.

This was my first attempt at making an Angel Food Cake and I must say this recipe was very easy and delicious. And having a Stand Mixer does help a lot!

Herb Rubbed Sirloin Tip Roast

Reviewed: Mar. 29, 2009
My husband and I have made this several times and we love it. His favorite method is to put the roast in the oven at the lowest temperature so it can slow cook all day. Thanks for a delicious recipe!

Grandma Johnson's Scones

Reviewed: Mar. 29, 2009
I've made this recipe 3 times now and it has turned out every single time. I omit the raisins b/c I'm just not a huge fan of them. I also like to make Alton Brown's Donut Glaze and dunk them in the glaze to make a scone just like the Vanilla Scones they sell at Starbucks.

Banana Cake VI

Reviewed: Mar. 29, 2009
I heated the oven to 350 F and made this into cupcakes! They turned out beautifully! I filled the muffin cups 3/4 of the way to the top and only had one that spilled over. Tastes delicious too, very moist.
