Amaretto

Reviewed: Aug. 11, 2003
Who knew it could be this easy to make delicious amaretto?? I will never buy commercial amaretto again. I even used the cheapest of vodkas, and this turned out wonderfully. I intend to give it as gifts! Thanks for posting such a great recipe!

Sauerkraut Salad

Reviewed: Jan. 27, 2004
I thought this was good. I might decrease the sugar a bit next time, but it really is a delightful change of pace from regular sauerkraut.

Ribboned Fudge Cake

Reviewed: Jun. 1, 2007
My mother requested this for her birthday. I made this for her about three YEARS ago, and it made such an impression she wants it again! This cake is really delicious. I think a lot depends on what brand of mix you buy...I find DHines gives the best results. The cream cheese is easiest to beat after it has come to room temp. If you don't have time for that, soften it briefly in the microwave to make mixing it much easier.

Tossed Romaine and Orange Salad

Reviewed: Jan. 27, 2004
Really not good. Waaaay too much oil, too much pepper, not enough sweetness. I will try another recipe, because I like the concept of the salad - just not the dressing from this recipe.

Pepperoni Bread

Reviewed: Oct. 30, 2002
HOT DOG, this was GOOD! My husband, who usually says everything is "fine" actually called this "outstanding"! I thought this was very, very good. Next time I will put sauce in it, just to see how it turns out. Yummy, yummy, yummy!

Orange Sherbet Salad

Reviewed: Nov. 24, 2010
We've been making this recipe every Easter and Thanksgiving for at least thirty years. First we drain the juice from the can of mandarin oranges, then add water to that to equal two cups. Wonderful, classic, pretty!

Pumpkin Waffles with Apple-Cranberry Relish

Reviewed: Oct. 17, 2010
This is a review of the waffles only, as I did not make the relish. Fabulous! Wonderful flavor, easy to make, very good texture. I made these for company, and they were very well received. What a nice breakfast for autumn! Next time I will serve with some sautéed apples.

Chicken Salad Spread

Reviewed: May 28, 2008
A good starting point. From here, you can get creative - try dried cranberries, or curry powder, or some other affectation. There are so many ways to dress up chicken salad, but it starts with the right ratio of chicken to mayo. I enjoy substituting ranch dressing for part of the mayo. Yum!

No Roll Pie Crust II

Reviewed: Sep. 26, 2008
Excellent. I left out the sugar, because I was using the crust for a pot pie. At the same time, I also made the other No Roll Pie Crust recipe on this site...this one is definitely superior to that one. I have even made this substituting olive oil for half the oil (again for a savory dish, not a dessert pie) and it was delicious!!

Brown Sugar, Mustard-Glazed Ham

Reviewed: Jan. 25, 2004
This was really very good. I'm not usually a fan of glazes on ham, but I decided to try this one because of the mustard. It was delicious - very sweet, but with a bit of tang. I will not try another recipe, this is now "my" ham glaze! Enjoy!

Sour Cream Pear Pie

Reviewed: Dec. 28, 2003
I think this pie is fantastic. It's such a unique flavor! My husband, daughter, and parents love it, but my sister-in-law finds it too rich. Personally, I didn't think it too rich at all. Definitely a recipe to try at least once!

Bagel Bread

Reviewed: Aug. 22, 2003
Nothing "bagel" about this bread, but it wasn't bad. The crust was way too hard, but the inside was tender. Taste was fine.

Exactly what a blondie should be. Easy recipe that my 11yo can make without parental involvement. Tasty enough to share with guests and friends!

Sunday Morning Lemon Poppy Seed Pancakes

Reviewed: Sep. 3, 2011
I double the recipe, except the baking powder/soda. They cook up delicate and fluffy, and absolutely delicious. I like to use the powdered lemon peel from penzys, mixed in with the dry ingredients. Lovely flavor! Tastes great paired with seedless raspberry jam.

Oatmeal Waffles

Reviewed: Jan. 29, 2011
Wonderful! Also great subbing wheat flour for part of it. We've also tried adding blueberries or chocolate chips, and it's just great! I love that these waffles stay crisp - other recipes seem to get soggy a couple minutes after they're out of the waffle iron, but these stay nice!

Breakfast Pizza

Reviewed: Jan. 12, 2011
Really good! I had a pre-made pizza crust which was 16 inches, so I used 5 eggs. I didn't have any hash browns on hand, so I grated a couple potatoes. This recipe is very versatile. I've made it bacon and onions, and I also enjoy the flavor of adding some powdered mustard to the eggs. My husband loved it!

Adrienne's Cucumber Salad

Reviewed: May 17, 2007
This is quite good! I did decrease the sugar. A local place makes this, and it's wildly popular. They use red onions to make it prettier, which I will try next time. I tried adding fresh dill, but I'll leave it out next time. A great side dish! My daughter said it tastes like summer!

Best White Icing Ever

Reviewed: Oct. 14, 2002
I'm about to gain 20 pounds. I sort of wish I'd gone my whole life not knowing I could make this icing from stuff I already have in my kitchen! It tastes absolutely exactly the same as the icing on the cakes from the grocery store bakery! I'm in love! I did sub half butter, at the suggestion of several other reviewers. It's not bright white, but I'm not picky about that.

Baked Oatmeal II

Reviewed: Dec. 9, 2012
I make this at least once a week for our family. What I love MOST about it is that the recipe is forgiving enough for lots of variation. Sometimes I sub applesauce for the oil. Sometimes I sub a couple bananas for 2/3 of the milk. Sometimes I sub pumpkin puree for most of the milk, and add some pumpkin pie spice. Once, I had ground up too many gingersnaps for the crust of a pumpkin cheesecake, and threw the excess gingersnap crumbs in. Delicious! You can even add peanut butter (and bananas?...or chocolate chips?) to the recipe. To add more healthy goodness, try adding some ground flax seed or wheat germ. It's yummy enough that the kids would never guess! Great recipe on its own, and fun to experiment with, too!

Blueberry Lemon Loaf

This is my favorite quick-bread. I used the powdered lemon zest from Penzys. What a delicious combination! And it freezes well.
