Zippy Barbecue Sauce

Reviewed: Jul. 10, 2012
Great! I substituted in regular mustard, a healthy squirt of Sriracha sauce, and a few cloves' worth of minced fresh garlic. I usually don't particularly care for barbecue sauce, so this is a great find.

Barbequed Steelhead Trout

Reviewed: Jul. 10, 2012
This was so good! I made it with the "Zippy Barbecue Sauce" recipe on this site, and was blown away, both by how good it was and by the foot-high flames that erupted when the butter mixture dripped into the coals. Ha! I'd recommend this to anyone finding themselves with an unexpected steelhead trout on their hands, as curiously seems to often be the case.

Chocolate Oatmeal Cookies

Reviewed: Jul. 6, 2012
Yum! I used butter, more brown sugar than white, and raisins instead of chocolate chips, and they turned out delicious!

Classic Tapioca Pudding

Reviewed: Jul. 5, 2012
Yum! I used brown sugar and honey, added more like 2 tsp of vanilla, and added a generous amount of fresh-ground nutmeg right at the end. Delicious!

Cape Breton Blueberry Grunt

Reviewed: Sep. 5, 2011
Oh wow. I made this with New Brunswick blueberries, which weren't very sweet this year, and reduced the first cup of sugar to 1/2 cup, and it was still AMAZING. Just the right sweetness. I also substituted butter in place of the shortening. If using sweeter blueberries, like those on the West Coast, I'd probably use 1/4 cup of sugar.

Meat Pie (Tourtiere)

Reviewed: Sep. 5, 2011
I made this with half beef and half pork, as other reviewers suggested. I also made the spice measurements heaping spoonfuls, and didn't bother with the water. Amazing! I will definitely be making this a Christmas Eve tradition.

Bacon and Potato Soup

Reviewed: Sep. 4, 2011
I made this without the celery (didn't have any) or cheese (lactose intolerant), but added some chopped parsley alongside the potatoes, and cooked the onion and carrot in a bit of leftover bacon grease instead of oil. So good!
