About this Cook
I'm a professional baker and work at home mom in Winston Salem, NC. I am truly a fearless cook and will attempt just about anything. Sometimes it works, and sometimes I end up scraping exploded food from my ceiling, but I always have fun. I love to teach my kids all about food and healthy cooking, and even let them participate in food prep whenever possible. I also love writing, blogging, reading, movies, music, and sci-fi ;)
My favorite things to cook
I. Love. Meat... and vegan food is pretty good too. My all time favorite thing to cook/eat is cake, though.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Every year beginning around Halloween, my kids and I go on a baking frenzy. We make lots of gingerbread and sugar cookies, and decorate gingerbread houses. It's such a fun time, and even though they end up covered in flour and trashing the kitchen, it's creating special memories that will stay with them forever.
My cooking triumphs
I'm glad to say that there have been many. I share them (along with the fails) on my blog, J'aime le gateau. You can read it here:
My cooking tragedies
Oh there have been many!!! Fallen souffles, overmixed pie filling, and forgetting to grease the cake pan for starters. I've also been guilty of burning pancakes and accidentally lighting taco shells on fire.

Oatmeal Blueberry Muffins
Great recipe! Oatmeal gives the batter a great texture. I did add more blueberries though. I found that 1 1/2 cups of blueberries was perfect!

Sweet and Sour Sauce I
The sauce wasn't bad, but it tasted like it needed something to balance out the bitterness of the vinegar. I think there was definitely way too much vinegar in there. I did add the honey someone else suggested and it made it a lot better, but I don't think I'll make this recipe again.
