LINDSAY'S 1ST BIRTHDAY!!!

My daughter's fondant bow cake didn't turn out so great but I improvised when the bow didn't stick together like it was suppose to. Oh well. I tried. The cake still turned out beautiful!!!

Poor thing is sick too. I was suppose to stay home and make a birthday dinner and cake but early in the morning, I took both girls to the doctor. They were both diagnosed with BRONCHITIS!!! I was glad I took them because yesterday I called and they said they couldn't be seen until next Tuesday. Today I called early in the morning before taking Josceline to school and they said they could be seen that morning.

By the time we got out of the doctor's office and waiting around Wal-Mart for their prescriptions, it was already 1:00 P.M. and we still needed to eat lunch. So off we went to Olive Garden, ate, went back to get medications, spent another 30 minutes to settle health insurance error, and finally the 1 hour drive home.

Needless to say, I started the fondant bow set up (I made the bow loops Monday) at about 3:30 P.M. It didn't have enough time to harden. Then I made the cakes, frosted them, put fondant on them, then attempted to salvage the gooey bow for about 30 minutes. Finally I gave up, made an improvised bow, and took a gagillion pictures.

The power kept going off but I believe we started eating cake at about 7:30 P.M. Lindsay didn't know what it was since it had about a pound of fondant on it. I finally opened it up and let her and Josceline eat the actual cake. MESSY, MESSY, MESSY!

Thank you. The bow became lighter in color. Not sure why. Air? Sunlight? I don't know.

Thank you SWEETJAM! Kids get sickness is a bummer. It seems to happen at the worst times too. By the way, I ABSOLUTELY LOVE YOUR KITCHEN. I showed my husband your photos and he was even impressed. He used to build houses so admiting that someone can do a better job than him is a really big deal. Anyways, I LOVE YOUR KITCHEN!

The cake is adorable. Did you go by a pattern? Have you had cake decorating classes? Hope your girls are feeling better soon. Thanks for sharing the pictures.

To Christine M: Thank you so much. Yes I hate it when my daughters get sick, especially the older one. When she was an infant, she always had one illness after the other. Everytime she got really sick, she always had VERY labored breathing, wheezing, nublizers, medications, etc. Freaked me out and now I'm traumatized.

To ilovetocook: I didn't use a pattern just an idea from this website: http://www.cakeboss.com/FondantBowTutorial.aspx They also have a Castle Fondant Cake I really want to try out for older daughter's birthday. I've never taken any decorating/cooking classes before but would love to some day.

Will check out that website. Our 7 yr old son has respiratory problems often when the seasons change. We have to pull out the nebulizer at least twice a year.
