Moist Cinnamon Rolls

Reviewed: Mar. 22, 2008
Super rolls! The rolls were soft, with a nice texture to compliment the gooey, sweet, cinnamony filling. The only changes I made were substituting white sugar + molasses for brown sugar which isn't available and almost doubling it. I also added more walnuts (especially in the mixture which is added to the baking pan). Highly recommend this recipe and it will very quickly become a standard in my house!

Super way to fix lamb! Had a boneless lamb steaks which turned out wonderfully tender and juicy! I added some extra garlic and freshly ground pepper otherwise followed the directions exactly. I now have a new recipe for a quick, easy and elegant dinner for guests I want to impress. Thanks so much!

Super lemon poppy loaf...and I have tried a few. Lemon flavor was just right and it went very well with the Microwave Lemon Curd (recipe from Allrecipe.com). Highly recommend it...no changes needed.

Shepherd's Pie VI

Reviewed: Sep. 16, 2008
After reading the other reviews I made the following changes: 1/8 c. Worchester Sauce and 2 minced garlic cloves added to the browned ground beef, boiled the carrots and potatoes together to make a mixed mash, added a can of corn between the meat mixture and the mashed potatoes/carrots (creamed corn would have been better but it isn't available here). It was as good as the one that my aunt used to make! Thanks for the keeper! I'll be adding this recipe to my file and making it often!

Double Layer Pumpkin Cheesecake

Reviewed: Dec. 25, 2008
Wow! Easy, super delicious...a recipe to keep and use over and over and over again! I made no substitutions apart from making my own crust using a recipe from this site (Graham Cracker Crust I...which was also a great recipe). I can't wait to make this pie/cheesecake for my friends!

Mushroom Orzo

Reviewed: May 15, 2011
I wish I could give this 10 stars! I took the basic recipe and altered it a bit. Less butter (1/4 c.) because I used unstrained homemade chicken broth. I forgot all about the parmesan but didn't miss it due to the richness from the broth. Will make this again and again. Thanks BARBARCLAY!

Carrot Cake with Butter Sauce

Reviewed: Mar. 14, 2008
It was less like a carrot cake than a very good spice cake. I will make the cake again but may choose to use a more traditional cream cheese frosting. I was skeptical about the instructions regarding not greasing the baking pan but had absolutely NO problem getting the cake out of the glass baking dish. The butter sauce was a huge disappointment (hence the 4 out of 5 stars). The corn starch turned a creamy sauce into a gloppy, lumpy coagulated mess. Reheating did not thin it and it was SO unattractive on top of the otherwise delicious cake.

Slow Cooker Chicken Thai Ramen Noodles

Reviewed: Apr. 17, 2011
I pretty much followed the recipe and found it to be quite delicious. The only changes were the addition of salt (curiously missing from the recipe) and garlic/hot sauce substitute because I didn't have Thai garlic chile paste. The mixture before the addition of the noodles was quite soupy but it thickened beautifully with them. Because the dish is so rich, a side of broccoli or a nice tossed salad would go nicely too. I will definitely make this one again! Thanks rhapsody!

Raisin Rice Stuffed Chicken

Reviewed: Dec. 25, 2008
Thanks so much for this recipe! I made a few changes to suit our taste and it was a big hit. I sauteed the onion with a finely grated carrot and about 1/2 c. of finely grated celery root (celery is not readily available here in Turkey.)Instead of 1 cup of raisins I used a handful (maybe 1/3 c.) of currants and added a pinch of cinnamon. I added uncooked rice and water, using less water than called for so that the rice would not be completely cooked and would absorb chicken drippings in the oven without becoming mushy. A few minutes before it was completely cooked, I removed it from heat and removed the lid so the rice could cool. When cooled, I stuffed the chicken. I followed the suggestion of one of the reviewers and put the chicken on a bed of rice but the rice burned and stuck to the bottom of the chicken so it was mostly inedible. The amounts were too generous for a 5 lb. chicken so after stuffing, I filled a small casserole dish with the remaining rice to eat with leftover chicken later in the week. The turmeric added a wonderfully rich color and exotic flavor which really went well with the plain roast chicken. I will definately be making this rice again!

Graham Cracker Crust I

Reviewed: Dec. 25, 2008
Super easy and delicious! Ready made graham cracker crusts are not available here in Turkey...neither are graham crackers for that matter! I substituted a digestive cookie (as the reviewer from New Zealand did)and followed the rest of the recipe as is. My only problem was that the crust was a little bit too crunchy. Next time I will reduce the sugar and cooking time a little bit to see if it produces a more tender, crumbly crust. Overall though, it worked well with the 5 star Double Layer Pumpkin Cheesecake recipe (also from this site.) This is a keeper!

Baked Apple Pudding

Reviewed: Feb. 12, 2009
As my daughter and I are following a weight loss program, I adjusted this recipe as follows: instead of butter I used 1 small, mashed banana and 2 T. oil; instead of sugar I used splenda for baking; I used 1/2 all-purpose flour and 1/2 whole wheat flour; decreased nutmeg to 1/8 t. and increased cinnamon to 3/4 t.; increased walnuts to 1/2 cup. It came out like a moist walnut apple bread and tasted great! This will be a great way to get our cake without going off our program! Without frozen yogurt the changes to nutrition are as follows: Per Serving (excluding unknown items): 115 Calories; 6g Fat (44.1% calories from fat); 3g Protein; 14g Carbohydrate; 2g Dietary Fiber; 18mg Cholesterol; 79mg Sodium. Classic Goulash

Reviewed: Mar. 21, 2011
Easy and good. My teenagers loved it. The only change I made was to double the macaroni. Since I made 1/2 recipe, the high sided skillet I chose was big enough. Guess what I'm having for lunch today?

Hearty Vegetable Soup

Reviewed: Mar. 4, 2009
I will have to tweak this recipe a bit before it gets 4 or 5 stars. First of all, I really disliked the rice which when cooked got very mushy. I will substitute barley next time...a good thickener which holds its shape in soups and stews. The liquid was far too little and I ended up adding about 4 cups more water to make it soup-like instead of stewy. The overall measurements of vegetables was good...no flavors were overpowering but next time I may substitute a vegetable or chicken stock for part of the 3 cups tomato juice cocktail. Corn and peas together are too many starchy (high carb) vegetables for me...I added only corn and of that, half of what was called for. I will finish the soup and try again next week making the changes. Thanks for the starting recipe. I'll let you know how my changes work out!
