I am 15 years old, turning 16 very soon. I joined AllRecipes because this is the site where my aunt's friend got her cookie recipe which I totally LOVE so much. Also, I love this place because all the recipes my cooking group at school cooked and baked are taken from here. I love to bake, although I might not become a chef someday, I will learn how to cook and bake my may to 5-star recipes, (and maybe someday I might be able to make recipes of my own!).
My favorite things to cook
I don't love cooking as much as baking. I am better at baking because I am more interested in it. Problem is that our oven's broken so baking at home is limited. Ingredients here are also limited so I can't experiment that often with new recipes. But there's a cooking/baking class at school and I take my opportunity to bake there. I have baked cookies and muffins and even pizza doughs that are loved by my classmates! Of course, all that yummy work wouldn't be finished without their help! But I never cook. I'm not that good at it... hehe...
My favorite family cooking traditions
My lola (Grandmother) has all our family recipes locked in her head! She cooks by experience. She makes great and tasty soups and dishes for the family and we can't wait until we gobble them up! She makes great buko pandan (filipino dessert made with shredded fresh coconut, milk and jelly) and ginataan (my favorite filipino dish that is made of boiled rice, sugar, jelly balls, thick sweet soup and yam). How I wish I could cook the recipes she cooks! Once I get the Ginataan recipe, I'll be sure to post it here!
My cooking triumphs
As I've said in "My Favorite Things To Cook", I was in charge of baking in our cooking group. So far, my best and mot delicious baking triumph was the pizza dough. It was active dry yeast and we let it stand for only 15 minutes because of the short time period but it still turned out great! My group mates bought four ready-to-bake pizza crusts but I wanted to bake mine so I let them handle theirs and they cooked the yummy toppings. I baked by pizza with the help of one of my group mates who seemed interested in the dough. We even tried putting cheese in the crust! (YUMMY!!!) After baking it for a little while, we added loads of cheese, tomato sauce, more cheese, parsley and the leftover toppings. Compared to the one with the read-to-bake pie crust, everyone said that our pie crust was the best! Another was the Chocolate Chip-Oatmeal cookie. We were the only group who made our cookie step by step. Others used the one-step Recipes from the box. We made it giant-sized and again, everyone
My cooking tragedies
Numerous! I tried to make fried rice because my grandmother was in Hong Kong at that time. My mom, elder sister and I were left at home. I tried my best but then it turned out hard and oily. We threw it after, we couldn't eat it! (Blegh!) Another was the Lasagna at school. It was the hardest thing I have ever cooked! It was utter disaster! We made three plates of lasagna. The first was awesome! The second and third was garbage! The pasta was too hard, we even got our hands burned! (I even remember accidentally putting my BEAR HAND in the oven to pull out the Pirex dish. I forgot that I had no mittens on!) But it was an experience. Haha...
