About this Cook
I'm 22 and I've been cooking a little bit since I was probably 10, and when I was 16 or so my sister and I cooked most of the meals at home for a while. I Love cooking. I recently got married, so I've been doing a lot more cooking lately, and it's been fun. So far my husband has liked pretty much everything I've cooked!
My favorite things to cook
lasagna, stir fries, curries, pasta, and recently I've started to expriment with making pies, which I found out I like to do (even though i don't really like pie). I never used to enjoy baking very much, but lately have come to enjoy it more and have been doing a lot of baking.
My favorite family cooking traditions
an old stand by in my family is "hash": basically ground beef, usually fried up with onions and mixed with mushroom soup to make a thick sauce, sometimes other vegetables added like corn. another old stand by which I should be sick of but still love is simple baking powder biscuits
My cooking triumphs
I recently substituted fish sauce in thai recipe with anchovy paste and balsamic vinegar. not quite the same, but it worked and I was so proud of myself! I can make pie (also very proud of myself for that one)!
My cooking tragedies
My husband and I have recently come to love soy milk as a replacement for regular milk. You can substitute it in many things, but I found out that chocolate pudding is not one of those things! The pudding didn't thicken and was like chocolate soup.

Easy Oatmeal Muffins
This is a pretty good recipe, and definitely simple and easy. But don't cook them as long as it says! Probably 15-18 minutes would be better. I cooked them for 20 minutes, and figured I would for sure be safe with the minimum amount of time. But when I took them out of the oven they were way over cooked, on the verge of burnt, and burnt on some of the bottoms. That was pretty disappointing. Though they were still not too bad with some margarine and jam (a bit dry though). I will make these muffins again, but I would definitely never cook them that long again.

Brandy Flamed Peppercorn Steak
I made this for my parents' 25th anniversary. It was a big hit among the steak lovers in my family. I am not a steak lover, but I really enjoyed the flavour of the sauce. And it was fun to make!

Scottish Oat Scones
These are just like the scones my mom used to make, and they always satisfy my craving for that childhood treat. =)
