About this Cook
I worked in the restaurant cooking industry staring at age 16 for 12 years. I went to cooking school for one semester got straight A's and dropped out. Now I have a nursing and nutrition degree under my belt and work in public health. I cook for my family mostly these days but I have done it all food wise.
My favorite things to cook
Nothing is my least favorite although I do cook much simpler than I used to. I just recently decided I was an over achiever with my cooking. These days I try to concentrate on one or two things at a time a do them really well. I like to bake and generally give most of it away.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mother is from France so we make the typical classics and really just cook from scratch. But we generally have beef wellington for christmas eve, macaroni and cheese and hot dogs on holloween and throw a Hiwaiian BBQ every July.
My cooking triumphs
I would one for sure was making a lasanga dinner all by myself at 19yo for a wedding rehersal dinner. I have also made a few wedding cakes and did a catering job out of my mom's kitchen for 150 people. I make an awesome bush du noel, that can not beat by any local bakery.
My cooking tragedies
I'm really bad with cheap meat! I am getting better but I never learned what to do with tougher cuts of meat when I was young. Now I do make pot roast, swiss steak and beef stew. Also I attempted to make a cream puff pyramid with spum sugar one year for christmas. I ended up a plate of flat cream puffs.

World's Best Lasagna
Really wanted to like this recipe. Followed it to a tee and the sauce was awful. WAY too much tomato paste. Had to throw out half of the dish, we just couldn't eat it .

Patty's Mom's Black Bean Soup
Out of three homemade soups I offered at our christmas open house this was the least favorite. The soup was good, I like the sherry, but it couldn't compete with salmon chowder and tortilla soup. Also the sherry flavor fades adn I kept adding more.

Smoked Salmon Chowder
Winner, I live in the northwest and made this for a Christmas open house. This was one of three homemade soups I offerred. People love it. I used bottle clam juice for part of the fish stock volume. In the future I may make the fish stock with dried fish flakes or "dashi" since someone in my extended family is allergic to shell fish they couldn't eat this. It makes a huge amount great for a party. would cut this is half or quarter for a meal just at home. did freeze okay.
