Holy Moly! I can't beleive it's been since September that I've dropped by to say hello. At the beginning of November I started a new job. I still work for Child Protective Servcies but I am now a special investigator. This means I handle the worst of the worst cases, work an average of 10-12 hours a day, and do a lot of typing. None of which is helpful in maintaining a blog. But, today I close two cases and I spend next week in Waco (Texas's most boring town) attending some equally boring seminars so I thought I'd give a quick update.

First and foremost, my friend in Liver failure got a liver two days after Christmas. I don't think overjoyed, greatful, ecstatic or any other word covers the emotion we all felt. The even better part is that her recovery has been amazingly fast and successful.

Next up is the house. The infamous orange room is now a lovely shade of blue, Oliver LOVES his chalkboard wall, and I have 1500 sq. feet of German Cherry Laminate packed all over the house just waiting for my boyfriend to begin installation. After that it's tile in the bathroom and sanding and painting the stairs white. Then we kick back and relax (yeah right-who am I kidding- I own a home for crying out loud).

Oliver is growing like a weed. He has added the words cookie (thanks to Grandpa), book, Woody and Buzz (thanks to Uncle Max), sheesh (when he gets upset), cracker, azul, verde, roja, uno, two, and ew (every time he sees the kitty). I'm so proud of him.

Now for the truly important stuff. Food. I have been blessed with a boyfriend who will literally eat anything, literally. He has never once turned down a recipe and, although he isn't overly fond of carrots he always eats them. I can always tell a real winner when he leaves the table to come over and give me a kiss. Some kiss worthy dishes of late are as follows:

***bacon wrapped filet mignon with a blue cheese mushroom sauce and a side of  shrimp scampi and toasted bread***

***We made Santa White Chocolate Macadamia Nut cookies ***

***deep fried peppers and scallops with three dipping sauces (creamy wasabi, horseradish mayo, and sweet and spicy soy sauce)***

***spinach and grueyre quiche***

***pizza margarite with roasted garlic and tomatoes topped with hand pulled mozzerella and fresh basil***

***Blue cheese stuffed dates, wrapped in bacon and baked***

***Turkey Tettrazini from leftover Thanksgiving meat***

***Creamy Split Pea Soup***

***A Pumpkin Alfredo Sauce over pasta that I snatched from a blogger's post***

***Pork Roast in a Spicy Guiness Sauce with roasted potatoe and oyster stuffing***

***Thcick Cut Maplewood bacon wrapped around asparagus and top with the best parmesan cheese***

All these recipes are from Allrecipes but I'm one of those cooks that NEVER, EVER follows a recipe to the tee. So, I used the recipes on the site (or usually a hodge podge of them and alter it to fit my cupboard and preference).

Well, my tech just walked in and handed me a new case. How crazy was I to imagine that I'd have a slow day? At least I got to squeeze in a blog post.

Always remember that today is the first day of the rest of your life!

Pink Pancakes!

I'm glad to hear that Waco is a boring town. The only time I had ever heard of it was a while back and very bad news. But bad news can happen anywhere. What a tough job you have. Our quilt guild donates quilts to our local Department of Families and Children, or something like that. They just changed their name. The quilts are for the kids that are scooped up from bad situations and have nothing of their own. We also make 12 square quilts of minkie or satin, with ribbons for the kids to hold onto - kinda like the proverbial blankie. I hope that you have a guild in Texas that is helping you out by donating quilts for kids. From what I read in the quilting magazines and on the internet, Texas produces some mighty good quilters with Texas sized hearts. All quilters like to give "comfort". Finding the best cause for our time and investment is often difficult. The social workers come back to tell us a little about the effect these quilts have on the kids. We are all in tears when they leave and rush home to start a new quilt. Your descriptions of your culinary masterpieces sound like a menu for a fancy restaurant. You put me to shame. I was gonna make roast chicken and mashed potatoes for dinner. Now, I think I'd better get a little fancier.
