Well, I'm finally back in Austin and boy is it nice to be home, even if home is in the middle of a major remodel! Oliver has been visiting with my parents but he arrives this evening. It'll be nice to get our routine back. My brothers band, The Broderick, rocked the Forecastle music festival and just finished their summer tour. I posted a few pics.

As for cooking, I haven't been doing much of that. After hours of sanding, painting, and patching drywall in the Texas heat I don't have much drive to cook elaborate meals. It's been mostly whatever I can find in the pantry. I have been trying to empty out the freezer for the move and found waaay in the back a whole chicken. So I roasted that in the oven with a jar of duck sauce. Mind you, I didn't actually put the jar of duck sauce in the oven. I poured it on the chicken first. It's chicken sandwiches for the rest of the week!

Last night as I was pouring a glass of wine my beautiful Kitchen Aid mixture caught my eye and seemed to be calling out to me.."How come you never use me? I'm so lonely in the corner over here". The pressure got to me so I pulled out an old Irish cookbook and made up a batch of sweet scones. Slathered with butter and jam they make the best breakfast.

Well, I'm off to the airport to pick up Olive...oh, and my brother and his girlfriend but they aren't important at this moment. Two weeks without my son nearly killed me. I can't count the number of times I've stared longingly at his crib/shoes/blankets/toys/clothes.

Don't is the first day of the rest of your life...

Hi...when I have no drive to cook, I just throw something, anything, in the crock pot. Tastes like you cooked all day, but it couldn't be easier!
