In some way, these books deal with food.  Some include recipes, others inspire you to create recipes with the food you read about.  One book suggests what food/beverages to have on hand in the event of severe weather.  A blog will be available for your comments on the Saturday of our discussion.  If you send your food photos that relate to the book we will discuss ahead of time, I will include it in the blog that Saturday.

On Saturday, March 10, we will review Heat by Bill Buford.Heat by Bill Buford
This book is about a man who decided to become a cook. Let's talk more about this on Saturday!

Then, on March 25, two books have been selected.  Cover is a photo of a bicycle parked on a strip of grass between two ploughed fields.cover of Plenty
Plenty: Eating Locally on the 100 Mile Diet   Both were written by Alisa Smith.  Because these both have "100 Mile Diet" in the title, I think we could have a great discussion with either or both books!

extreme_weather Extreme Weather by Bonnie Schneider is our book for April 7.

Our book for April 21 will be another murder mystery.

Skeleton Letters (A Scrapbooking Mystery, #9)

Sueb, hope some people have read Heat, was hard to get through. Can I suggest a book for the future. I just finished "School of Essential Ingredients" by Bauermeister, Erica No recipes but it is about a cooking class and learning how people relate to food. Fiction but light enough for most to get through. I thought it was interesting. Check it out. Thanks again.

I would love for people to suggest books! I hate to be stuck in a category that people aren't enjoying! If I can figure out how to add it to this blog, I will. Let's make that the May 5th selection!

I just picked up an interesting book called "Make the Bread, Buy the Butter" It is a guide of what is practical and fiscally smart to make from scratch. It's a combination how-to, cookbook, and memoir by Jennifer Reese.

About Me
Married and mother
My favorite things to cook
New England style food--vegetarian baked beans and brown bread. For Christmas, we need Kringla, and rosemary fudge. Valentine's Day isn't the same without cinnamon hearts, clove hearts, and peppermint hearts (these are all cream cheese mints). For Thanksgiving we use my great grandmother's plum pudding recipe to make figgy pudding.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Between Thanksgiving and Christmas, for each batch of cookies that are baked, 1/2 dozen go into the freezer. On Christmas, we assemble all the 1/2 dozens on a platter. It's a wonderful variety! The kids want 2 dozen of each kind of candy saved!
My cooking triumphs
New recipes! We've (the family) all won at state fairs. We love to come up with new ideas, then experiment!
My cooking tragedies
When I was called to the hospital because of a family emergency, I forgot to turn off the stove while cooking chicken. I returned home to a house that smelled awful! That was just a little while before overnight guests arrived! Another time, when I was canning sweet pickles, I had 7 quarts of hot sticky pickles in glass jars come crashing to the floor. Talk about a mess!
