Glazed Doughnut Strawberry Shortcake

Reviewed: Sep. 3, 2014
OMG! I saw this and absolutely had to try it! This definitely is a delightful twist on traditional strawberry shortcake. It's so easy and it's a great way to use up glazed doughnuts. It leaves you wondering why you'd eat a glazed doughnut any other way! And while it's not for those counting calories - it's OK to indulge once in a while (at least you can say you got a serving of fruit LOL). I did drizzle these with a little chocolate sauce to take them over the top but they're fabulous as is - everyone loved these. This quick and easy recipe is a definite keeper. Thanks voraciousgirl! (my husband thanks you too!)

Fresh Tomato Salsa Restaurant-Style

Reviewed: Sep. 3, 2014
Great recipe! Very easy to put together and tastes great. I chopped my tomatoes vs. grating and added a little red onion and finely chopped green pepper. I opted out of the onion salt and just used regular. I didn't have canned jalapenos so I used about a Tbsp. of finely chopped fresh. I added a splash of apple cider vinegar and let it set overnight. The flavors blended together nicely. This was very good served with "Baked Tortilla Chips" from this site.

Grilled Marinated Shrimp

Reviewed: Sep. 3, 2014
Yum! This recipe was a big hit! I did cut back on the olive oil as one cup seemed a bit excessive. And I did cut back on the hot sauce using 1 Tbsp. of Frank's Red Hot because I wasn't sure just how spicy these would get. I put it all into a ziploc bag and let it marinate for two hours. I soaked my wooden skewers in water to prevent burning. These grilled up nicely and tasted fabulous! Great as an appetizer, compliment to steak, or all by itself! Thanks for a great recipe!

Healthier Marinated Grilled Shrimp

Reviewed: Sep. 3, 2014
Wow! This was so good even my husband enjoyed it and he's not a huge fan of grilled shrimp. Very easy and takes practically no time at all. I opted for a couple shakes of tabasco vs. cayenne pepper and let it marinate for a couple of hours. I skewered these on wooden skewers that I soaked in water to avoid them burning. Great recipe and one that you don't have to feel guilty about!

Caprese Salad with Grilled Flank Steak

Reviewed: Sep. 3, 2014
Fabulous! A perfect summer meal that's light, easy to make and tastes great without a ton of effort. I didn't bother refrigerating the caprese salad and made that last while the meat was grilling. I lightly scored the steak on both sides and cut it into four individual steaks to make grilling it a bit easier. I put the steak into a ziploc bag along with the olive oil, garlic, salt and pepper with just a splash or two of white wine vinegar and let it marinate for a couple of hours. I served the steak along side the lettuce and caprese salad with "Linda's Best Ever Garlic Bread" from this site. The only thing left was to open a nice bottle of wine and enjoy!

Lisa's Best Ever Garlic Bread

Reviewed: Sep. 3, 2014
Very easy and very tasty! I did up the garlic a bit and added a little oregano to the mix. I brushed this over the bread vs. dipping and topped it with a little chopped parsley. Simple and delicious!

Pantry Puttanesca

Reviewed: Sep. 3, 2014
Quick, easy, and full of flavor! And it just so happens it used things I commonly have in my pantry, minus the anchovies which I left out completely. You can easily adjust this to suit your tastes. I cut back on the oil and used Italian seasoned diced tomatoes and didn't bother draining them. I also added just a little tomato paste concentrate. I topped it with a little shredded Parmesan cheese before serving. This was so simple and went great with Baked Garlic Parmesan Chicken from this site, garlic bread, and of course a nice glass of wine!

Apple Cheesecake Bars with Sea Salt Caramel Sauce

Reviewed: Sep. 3, 2014
OMG! These were fabulous! I had my eye on this recipe for a while and finally got around to trying it and I'm glad I did. Very easy to make with great results that make it look like you spent hours... I lined my glass baking dish with Reynolds Wrap heavy duty non-stick foil which made getting the cheesecake out a breeze. I did add a Tbsp. of vanilla extract to the cream cheese mixture but other than that I didn't change a thing. My only criticism is that the baking time is off - I left it in for an hour and 15 minutes, then turned off the oven and let it remain in there for another 15-20 minutes. Once it cooled I left it in the fridge overnight. Be sure to clean your knife in between each cut. The sea salt caramel really compliments this nicely. Next time I think I'll just make this using a 9 inch round spring form pan. Overall, a definite keeper and one I'll make again!

Lemon-Blueberry Crumb Bars

Reviewed: Sep. 3, 2014
So easy and so delicious! I needed something to take to a Labor Day picnic and this fit the bill. I was worried about the dreaded "box cake mix" flavor coming through so I added a heaping Tbsp. of vanilla extract to the melted butter, egg, and yellow cake mix. To make things easy and to avoid anything sticking I used Reynolds Wrap heavy duty non-stick foil (great stuff). I did up the amount of lemon juice and zest just a bit because I wanted the lemon flavor to come through and it complimented the blueberries nicely. It baked up beautifully and once it was completely cooled I added a little lemon zest on top for a little contrast in color (plus it just looked pretty). Be sure to wipe your knife clean after each cut to avoid a mess. These were light, lemony and bursting with blueberries - you'd never know cake mix made this little dessert so yummy!

Crab Dip

Reviewed: Sep. 3, 2014
Overall, very tasty but you definitely have to play with this to get the desired flavor. I did take the advice of one of the reveiwers and squeezed fresh lemon over the canned crab before adding it which proved to be a good decision. I used 8 oz. of light cream cheese, 1/4 cup of Hellman's light mayo, and 1/4 cup of light sour cream. It did seem to be missing a little something so I added some Old Bay seasoning, a few shakes of tabasco and some horseradish. I served it with an assortment of crackers.

Pepperoni Eggs

Reviewed: Sep. 3, 2014
OMG - who knew eggs and pepperoni could make such a wonderful combination! This was so good and what a great way to liven up scrambled eggs. I used 1/2 cup of egg substitute and 2 whole eggs as egg substitute tends to be a little watery. I fried a little green pepper along with the onion and added a little chopped tomato to get in some extra veggies. I also used minced garlic vs. garlic powder. You could easily but this inside a tortilla for a really awesome breakfast wrap! This recipe is a definite keeper!

Easiest Corn on the Cob

Reviewed: Sep. 3, 2014
Wow - this really works! I love corn on the cob but dread the whole cleaning process because the silk gets all over the place and nine times out of ten some of it is inevitably left on the cob. This was so simple and so easy it leaves you wondering "why didn't I think of that?". Definitely give this one a try - you won't regret it! Thanks Chef John for sharing a great kitchen technique that I won't forget!

Apple and Bacon Grilled Cheese

Reviewed: Sep. 3, 2014
OMG! I love apples and bacon and placing it between two slices of lightly grilled bread with melted cheese...delicious! This is a nice twist on traditional grilled cheese and it was a perfect combination of sweet and salty. I used thick sliced whole grain bread, but whatever bread you use this is bound to be delicious. This is definitely a case of don't knock it 'til ya try it!

Chicken a la Pizza

Reviewed: Jun. 11, 2014
Delicious! I opted to use white wine vinegar and marinated everything for a little over 4 hours. Fresh rosemary gave this a nice herb flavor and the chicken came out moist and tender. I made the Mediterranean version and grilled some tomatoes vs. using canned. I also used fresh mozzarella cheese that I shredded over top and fresh basil instead of parsely. Overall, very tasty!

Baked Tomato Slices

Reviewed: Jun. 10, 2014
So simple, yet so delicious! This is very easy and makes a great side dish or light snack. If you love fresh ripe tomatoes, you'll love'em baked! These smelled wonderful and tasted even better. Once they came out of the oven I topped them off with a little shredded Parmesan cheese. And, while these are perfect on their own they went great with warm crusty bread and a nice glass of wine!

Kick'N Chicken with Mango Salsa

Reviewed: Jun. 10, 2014
Yum! This was a great combination of sweet and spicy! The mango salsa was absolutely delicious and paired nicely over top grilled chicken. I used lime juice and to season the chicken I opted to use Mrs. Dash Fiesta Lime Seasoning Blend. The chicken came out moist and flavorful! I served this with a side of Spanish rice, sliced avocado and warm tortillas - great recipe!

Lemon Basil Grilled Chicken

Reviewed: Jun. 10, 2014
Great recipe! The combination of citrus and herb complimented each other very nicely. I threw everything into a ziploc bag and let it marinate for about 4 hours. The result was a light, lemony grilled chicken with a hint of basil. This was so easy to put together for a weeknight meal and went great with grilled potatoes and baked tomato slices!

Jordan Marsh Style Blueberry Muffins

Reviewed: May 11, 2014
Fabulous recipe! I used butter instead of shortening and doubled the vanilla. I baked these in a Texas size muffin tin and topped them with turbinado sugar vs. regular sugar. I baked them at 400 for about 25 minutes. These smelled great and tasted even better! They were moist, flavorful and bursting with blueberries! Great with a piping hot cup of tea!

Apple Cinnamon White Cake

Reviewed: May 8, 2014
Absolutely delicious and takes virtually no time at all to put together - not to mention it's very pretty when it comes out of the oven. I did add two apples vs. one and opted for buttermilk vs. milk. Other than that, I wouldn't change a thing...except maybe for the cooking time. There's no way this would bake at 350 for 30-40 minutes and be cooked all the way through. I baked mine for 50-55 minutes and it came out moist, nicely spiced and bursting with apples! This is a great base for add-in's such as raisins or walnuts but it's perfectly fine all by itself and goes great with a nice cup of tea! Thanks for a great recipe!

Broiled Asparagus with Lemon Tarragon Dressing

Reviewed: May 8, 2014
Quick and easy side dish that's really good! We love asparagus and this was a nice way to dress it up a bit. The dressing wasn't overpowering and it gave it a nice creaminess with a bit of tanginess. Overall, very tasty!
