Spicy Black and Red Bean Soup

Reviewed: Jan. 20, 2009
I spiced it up with extra garlic, chili powder, cumin and cayenne pepper. I also used dried beans instead of canned (soaked and simmered for a couple of hours), because I had them. But this was really good and super healthy! Thanks for posting!

French Bread Rolls to Die For

Reviewed: Jan. 18, 2009
These were nice and fluffy but I prefer French bread to be crustier. I made 12 rolls and they came out huge, but they all fit on one cookie sheet. I also sprinkled the cookie sheet with cornmeal.

Slow Cooker Beef Stew I

Reviewed: Dec. 27, 2008
Simple, tasty, delicious, exactly as is, and easy to adjust to personal tastes. Browning the beef is unnecessary work and mess. I usually double this and increase the veggies, because it freezes great for weekday lunches.

Buckeyes I

Reviewed: Dec. 27, 2008
I make 2-4 batches every year. Favorite technique: microwave 1 pkg semisweet choc chips with 1/4 block paraffin. (15-20 seconds at a time, stirring to prevent scorching.) When dipping, swirl the bottom edge against a fork to prevent puddling at the base. I do NOT recommend adding shortening to the choc, that just makes it too soft and sweaty at room temps. I get 7-8 dozen per batch; I guess I roll them small. The ratios are perfect. Too sweet? Seriously? It's a BUCKEYE! If your chocolate is grainy, you scorched it. If your dough is crumbly, work it with your hands. Really. This recipe does NOT need altering.

Chicken Scampi II

Reviewed: Dec. 27, 2008
I added red, green and yellow bell peppers to try for the Olive Garden imitation. Good, but lacking something, I will increase the spices if I make this again.

Feta Cheese Foldovers

Reviewed: Dec. 27, 2008
I added sun dried tomatoes and roasted red peppers and used the fillo mini cups from the freezer section. Loved them, but they are definitely for feta lovers only!

Banana Sour Cream Bread

Reviewed: Nov. 26, 2008
This is the best ever - wish I could give it 6 stars! I halved the recipe for 5 mini loaves, baked at 325 for 45 minutes. I used 4 bananas, 2 eggs, 2 tsp vanilla, and 1 c. toasted chopped walnuts. Also used the topping mentioned in another review (1/2 c brown sugar, 1/2 c flour, 3 T butter, 1 t cinnamon and 1/3 c walnuts). The topping really put this recipe over the top!!

Joey's Peanut Butter Cookies

Reviewed: Nov. 24, 2008
The original recipe results in a very dry cookie. I didn't care for them, but my boyfriend liked them.

Very Easy Mushroom Barley Soup

Reviewed: Oct. 22, 2008
This was excellent! I thought the barley was still too firm at 50 minutes - allow a little more time if you like it tender. Great flavor though, thanks for this recipe!

Chicken Corn Chowder

Reviewed: Oct. 12, 2008
I absolutely loved this. I used chicken breasts instead of a carcass, boiled in broth and water for 2 hours. I also added some sliced carrot for color. Very easy to make. Great fall dish, thanks for posting this!

Clone of a Cinnabon

Reviewed: Oct. 12, 2008
We ate half right away and froze half right after rolling - and they were awesome both ways! This is not an inexpensive recipe though, so I'll probably just use it to impress company (which it did).

World's Best Lasagna

Reviewed: Oct. 12, 2008
The sauce did make twice as much as is required. Next time I'll cut that in half so the dish is not so expensive. But if you want a meaty lasagna, this recipe cannot be beat!

Greek Penne and Chicken

Reviewed: Oct. 12, 2008
Very yummy! I added black olives and used diced canned tomatoes. Also 2 chicken breasts and 12 oz. penne was enough to feed 3-4 people.

No Commercial Yeast Starter

Reviewed: Sep. 21, 2008
This is my first time trying to start a starter, and it was frothing and bubbling after only 24 hours. I'm very pleased. I'll update when I bake with it after it ages a little. Update: smelled atrocious and I had to throw it out after only 1 feeding. The smell was driving us out of the kitchen.

Sourdough Starter IV

Reviewed: Sep. 21, 2008
I started this one and the "No commercial yeast starter" from this site on the same day, and the other one is developing faster. But it's working, and I'll update when I make my first batch of bread with each one. Update: Both of my starters smelled atrocious in less than a week and had to be thrown out.

French Bread

Reviewed: Sep. 21, 2008
Finally, I can make real French bread. My first try was a bit too dense becuse the pan popped in the oven and deflated the loaf a little, but that was no fault of the recipe - and it didn't stop us from eating it all when it was still warm!

Annie's Fruit Salsa and Cinnamon Chips

Reviewed: Aug. 3, 2008
I used the egg slicer suggested in another review to reduce time chopping the fruit. The fruit I used was so ripe that no added sugar was necessary. I also coated the tortillas whole and stacked them to slice, which saved time. But total prep time for me was still nearly an hour. I took it to a pot luck, and it got great reviews! Thanks for posting this.

Lasagna Roll Ups

Reviewed: Jul. 23, 2008
I needed almost 2 boxes of noodles, since this made 24 rolls (and I thought 2 rolls was a perfect serving size). I added lots of minced garlic and oregano and some black pepper to the cheese mixture. Soft tofu blended right in to the cheese mix. Whole wheat noodles added fiber, and reduced fat ricotta helped reduce the fat a little. The teenagers loved it, and one of them swears he hates tofu. I would have needed more sauce if I wasn't freezing so many of them the day I made them.
