I have lived in Texas for most of my life, but have my heart in the north. Most of my cooking influences came from my mom who grew up in New Jersey. I love to cook in my spare time (although that is quite limited as a full-time college student working about 30 hour weeks....especially one who studies math) on top of painting and drawing, playing the piano and (learning) the guitar.
My favorite things to cook
Above all, I love to cook for people. (My boyfriend enjoys this a lot!) I haven’t been cooking for long, but I have come to realize that I like trying new things. I’m always searching for new recipes and ideas. If I had to narrow it down to one thing, baking things is my favorite because it seems as if it’s less ‘busy' for me. :)
My cooking triumphs
I find a thrill in flipping things in a skillet with no spatula, I know the pros probably have that down like they do most things in cooking, but I feel like I know my stuff when that happens and doesn’t turn into a total fail. I also found great pride in a latticed pie I did recently.
My cooking tragedies
I have two:
One time I forgot to cover a lasagna I made for my roommates. I didn’t remember until after all of the cheese on top had burned. It was awful. I peeled off the whole top layer and added more cheese and hoped they wouldn’t notice.
Another time, I was craving cookies. I had some sugar cookie dough left over from a fruit pizza I had made earlier, and FORGOT about the cookies in the oven. I was so sad when I opened the oven to find them burnt.
