I love old school southern food, and I love taking these traditions and making vegan/vegetarian versions for my husband and family.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Though I'm born and raised in the Chi, my family has Mississippi roots...I grew up on fried mackerel patties and white rice. Tomato gravy, cornbread dressing, and crowder peas, lima beans with okra...my mother and grandmother are my inspiration.
My cooking triumphs
I always loved my mother's dressing, she made it for all the holidays, but my sisters never ate it. This past year I made my own batch of cornbread dressing with some mushrooms and spinach...and my sisters loved it!!!
My cooking tragedies
I've had my share of not letting the grease get out enough before dropping the fish in..man oh man!!
