About this Cook
I'm a wife, mommy, and sister, originally from Chicago, but loving Acadiana (Opelousas, LA to be exact.
My favorite things to cook
I love old school southern food, and I love taking these traditions and making vegan/vegetarian versions for my husband and family.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Though I'm born and raised in the Chi, my family has Mississippi roots...I grew up on fried mackerel patties and white rice. Tomato gravy, cornbread dressing, and crowder peas, lima beans with okra...my mother and grandmother are my inspiration.
My cooking triumphs
I always loved my mother's dressing, she made it for all the holidays, but my sisters never ate it. This past year I made my own batch of cornbread dressing with some mushrooms and spinach...and my sisters loved it!!!
My cooking tragedies
I've had my share of not letting the grease get out enough before dropping the fish in..man oh man!!

Southern Candied Sweet Potatoes
This recipe is very similar to the one my mom makes. She bakes the sweet potatoes instead of stove top, and we use 1 cup white and 1 cup brown sugar. Great, simple southern recipe.

Salmon Salad
This is a great base recipe, I seasoned to my taste so I didn't suffer from the "too much salt" issue some did. Old Bay seasoning worked great in this, and this salad was tasty in a sandwich, thank you for posting!
