Apple Crisp IV

Reviewed: Oct. 11, 2009
The thing I love about this crisp recipe is that the best part of the crisp is the topping (for me at least!) and this is the first one I've seen that gives me a double layer of it! I'd sadly never thought to do that myself. I followed other reviewers advice and only used 1.5c of flour, turned out perfect!

Slow Cooker Creamy Potato Soup

Reviewed: Dec. 15, 2008
I don't know if my crock pot was just too small for this, but I followed the recipe exactly and it was a watery soupy mess after 8 hours. This didn't thicken for me at all. The taste would have been fine had it thickened but I wouldn't consider this "creamy" in the least. Disappointing since it was supposed to be dinner and I ended up at McDonald's instead.

Hot Pizza Dip

Reviewed: Jan. 31, 2008
i love this recipe, i take it to all of the parties/gatherings that I go to and it gets rave reviews. I generally "dumb it down" and just get a bag of mozzarella, parmesan, a jar of sauce, and the cream cheese and I generally don't measure. Can't go wrong with "too much" cheese ;)

Tuna Noodle Casserole I

Reviewed: Jan. 27, 2008
I followed the advice of other reviewers and didn't use the amount of noodles it called for. I cooked the full amount and then added them slowly while stirring the sauce until I had the amount that I thought was good. I topped it with breadcrumbs before baking. I found that I needed to add a lot of salt to give it some more flavor but overall it's a great base for a tuna noodle casserole. next time I will add some more spices and possibly some more cheese, as the cheese flavor didn't stand out as much as I would have liked it to

Bleu Cheese Macaroni

Reviewed: Jan. 3, 2008
Dear Sara - I will be sending you my liposuction bill from eating massive quantities of this macaroni. This is very, very good. It's almost exactly like the Gorgonzola Chicken dish that I get at my favorite restaurant. DEFINTITELY use an extra 3/4 cup of cream or use less flour. It doesn't need as much flour as it calls for unless you like a VERY THICK sauce. Even with the extra cream it was thick, so keep that in mind! I made this without the peppers, not a fan. This would also work very well with chicken and penne instead of just a flat out "macaroni and cheese".

Alysia's Basic Meat Lasagna

Reviewed: Jan. 1, 2008
This was the first recipe I've attempted for lasagna. I found a few others that involved dutch ovens that had great reviews, but I don't have a dutch oven and I didn't want to get TOO complicated on my first attempt. I've made this three times and I have gotten RAVE reviews every time I've done it. I made it most recently for new years eve dinner for my friends and again, it was a huge hit! I didn't make that many changes, I used sausage instead of ground beef like other reviewers. I also forgot to add the 8oz of tomato sauce but it wasn't missed really. I did double the jarred sauce like most everyone else and even then, I was a tad bit short. DEFINITELY use two jars!!! Thanks for the recipe!

Slow Cooker Chicken Stroganoff

Reviewed: Dec. 29, 2007
This smelled great while it was cooking and the sauce turned out quite good, but my chicken was so dry I ended up just eating around it. It was pretty inedible, which was disappointing. I might have cooked it slightly longer than it called for but it shouldn't have made THAT big of a difference. I probably won't be making this again.

Award Winning Soft Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 24, 2007
I hate it when I'm only one of thousands who don't rave about a review. I really wanted to love these but I didn't. They were definitely cake-like, not the soft cookie I was looking for. Also (I didn't see anyone else mention this), towards the end of the mixing process, the batter was so concrete-like that it was hard to mix. These didn't taste bad by any means, they just didn't have the consistancy that I'm looking for.

Shrimp Lemon Pepper Linguini

Reviewed: Jul. 30, 2007
This. Was. AWESOME. I doubled everything (half a box of pasta might be 4 servings "ideally" but let's be realistic here!!). The only substitution I made was that I used sea scallops for half of the amount of shrimp. I was skeptical about the amount of garlic and parsley it called for but I followed the recipe exactly anyway, and I'm so glad I did! The garlic was not overpowering like I thought it might be. I actually overcooked the sauce just a little bit but just added more broth and wine to make up for it and it was still phenomenal. I will definitely be making this again!

Slow Cooker Sweet and Sour Kielbasa

Reviewed: Feb. 6, 2007
i've made this recipe twice so far with different results. The first time I made it I had to wing it with a few of the ingredients (I was short on brown sugar), and I also used raw kielbasa instead of pre-cooked (smoked??) like hillshire farms or the like. When I made it the first time, it was good but didn't make me rave over it. I decided to give it another go for my superbowl party and this time I made sure I had all of the ingredients on hand (I also tripled the recipe to accomodate the amount of guests I had). I used hillshire farms kielbasa this time and WOW what a difference it was! This is a fantastic recipe and I will most definitely be using it again and again and again.

Chili I

Reviewed: Feb. 6, 2007
I thought that I was going to have a surefire hit on my hands with this one just from reading all of the great reviews, but I was pretty disappointed with this. I don't eat chili but I made it for my superbowl party, and everyone who ate it either said that it was missing something or that it was "only ok". It also never really thickened up at all, even after adding quite a bit of corn starch. Not a bad recipe by any means, but I probably won't be making this again due to the expense and the lackluster reviews it got. The only changes I made were to cut the brown sugar to 1/4 cup, 1.5 lbs of ground beef and 1.25lbs of cubed sirloin, and I used two cans of beans (drained) instead of four.

Orzo with Parmesan and Basil

Reviewed: Sep. 26, 2006
YUMMY! I've only made this once (so far) but I can't wait to make it again! It was EASY, pretty quick (timed well with the chicken I was making), and VERY yummy. I left off the last 2 tablespoons of basil garnish, and it was perfect already. I think adding more might have been a little overkill. I might lessen the amount of cheese by just a smidge next time, but it was still fantastic as-is.

Honey Roasted Red Potatoes

Reviewed: Sep. 26, 2006
This is GREAT. Every time I make this people ask me for the recipe. I tend to put in more honey and butter than is called for, but really, is there such a thing as too much? Ha! Highly recommended

Pesto

Reviewed: May 16, 2006
My roommate declared this "awesome" but maybe I'm just too used to pre-packaged pesto... I processed this for quite a long time (also added extra olive oil and cut the garlic down to three cloves), but I found it to be too "leafy", for lack of a better word. I'll have to try it in a recipe but based on my first impressions, I probably won't be making this again.

Maple Salmon

Reviewed: Apr. 24, 2006
This was good! I tried it twice, once marinating for two hours then again marinating it overnight. My only issue is that when I marinated it overnight, the marinade only penetrated the top layer of the fish so the flavor didn't go all the way through (which I would have liked). That is probably more to do with how I marinated than anything though (I've never marinated fish before). Also the maple flavor wasn't as strong as I would have liked, but I also used grade a medium instead of dark, so that might have had something to do with it. I'll definitely try this again and keep tweaking until I find the right way to do it for me. Overall a great recipe though, I definitely wouldn't have thought to prepare it this way! Thanks!

Stephan's Broiled Salmon Pesto

Reviewed: Apr. 24, 2006
This was good. I love pesto and I love salmon, so I thought I'd love them together. But I think the cooking method (browning the pesto) took a lot of the flavor out of the pesto so I wasn't as crazy about it as I thought I would be. Definitely not bad by any means, but I wouldn't put this on my favorites list.

Beer Cheese Soup II

Reviewed: Dec. 21, 2005
I'm giving it 2 stars because my friend liked it, but he's a human garbage disposal. I didn't care for this at all. I couldn't taste the beer OR the cheese in this... The cream was overwhelming. Maybe with a lot more cheese or a lot less cream it would have been ok.

Sweet Potato Bisque

Reviewed: Dec. 18, 2005
The proportions on this seem very off. The recipe says it serves eight but it made a lot more than that. This sounded really good but turned out quite dissapointing.

Fish in Foil

Reviewed: Dec. 1, 2005
This was EXCELLENT. Quite possibly the best fish I've ever made. I used steelhead trout and doubled the ingredients to make up for the size of the filet (they're quite large). It was PERFECT. I will definitely be making this again, thanks!!!
