Easy Weeknight Beef Stroganoff

Reviewed: Jan. 31, 2013
I used round steak and put everything in the slow cooker for 8 hours. I substituted a large can of low sodium mushroom soup for the mushroom cooking sauce and added a 1/4 cup of flour to thicken it. I found the sauce to be the perfect base for personal taste adjustments, so I added a tsp of black pepper and a tsp of Old Bay seasoning blend. The sauce looked a bit "pale" so I added 1/2 tsp of Kitchen Bouquet browning sauce to give it a bit more colour. I served it with egg noodles and it was a hit! Will definitely be making this again.

Hearty Beef Barley Soup

Reviewed: Jun. 16, 2009
I omitted the canola oil and just dumped everything in the crock pot for 6 hours. I used left over roast beef, and even included the gravy. I added an onion and 2 celery stalks as others had suggested, reduced the salt by half (we're not salt lovers), and the result was wonderful. My husband was really impressed, I will definitely make this again.

Cost savings all around...what a great way to use up old bread! I combined melted butter, olive oil, garlic salt, parsley flakes, and parmesan cheese in a sealed container, added bread and shook until coated. I will never be buying in a box again, or even crackers - I much prefer these in my soup! Next time I'm going to cut my bread into 1" cubes and use in french onion soup, I bet it'll be a lot easier to eat then trying to saw through soggy french stick with a spoon!

Quick and Easy Alfredo Sauce

Reviewed: Feb. 27, 2009
I don't normally keep cream in the house, so this was a great alternative. Next time I will use minced garlic instead of garlic powder, and add a bit of parsley for colour. Quick & easy, definitely worth trying again!

Melt-In-Your-Mouth Short Ribs

Reviewed: Jan. 12, 2009
I used regular onion soup mix with 1 cup of water, and 1 cup of beer (Alexander Keiths) and the taste was amazing. The meat was so tender that I found the bones sitting in the bottom of the crock pot, and the sauce mixture was delicious. The sauce was so good that I baked bread so we could have hot roast beef sandwiches the following day. I will definitely make this again, but may slightly reduce the thyme from 1 tsp to 1/2 or 3/4 tsp.
