Zucchini Crisp

Reviewed: Jul. 15, 2012
I was skeptical, but decided to give it a try since I had several zucchini staring me in the face begging to be cooked! I followed the recipe as written (as i feel this will only make for a fair review) and I must say, it looked, tasted, and smelled like the real deal! I deseeded the zucchini and then diced it, which I believe contributed to the look of apple. Needless to say, this recipe is a keeper!!!

Mom's Zucchini Bread

Reviewed: Jul. 12, 2012
I have never made nor have eaten zucchini bread before, but had a lot of fresh zucchini in my garden to find a use for. I followed this recipe verbatim (with the exception of makin a strusel topping one of the raters suggested) and I must say, this bread was delicious! I doubled the recipeand made 4 loaves, and gave them to family and friends, who all agreed that it was really good, and moist! The strusel gave it that extra bite of cinnamon and crunch from the walnuts (but it did not influence my rating) Also a little side note, while I appreciate those who alter the recipe to their specifications, I believe its only fair to follow the recipe as it is written and base your rating off of that. If you rate based upon your alterations, then its not a fair rating to the recipe as it was written.

Strawberry Jam

Reviewed: Jun. 1, 2012
This is my 1st time making a jam that required canning (made freezer jam once). I love this recipe, its tasty, spreadable and easy! I dbld the recipe (sort of) I used 5lbs of strawberries (girls and I went picking) and 8 cups of sugar, and 1/2 cup lemon juice (half fresh half concentrate). I brought it to a boil ver slowly on low, and once it started boilling increased the temp to med and continued to let it boil (stirring occassionally) until it reached a temp of 220 (used an electric thermometer) and the plate method. My recipe made 4.5pints. Caution to those that want to rush this method, DON'T DO IT! Letting it gradually come to temp gave it this deep maroon color, and the strawberries broke down beautifully! I will def be making this again, and giving them as gifts!!!

Lemon Lover's Pound Cake

Reviewed: May 21, 2012
This is the1st time I have ever made a cake that wasn't from a box mix. I can honestly say that although it was time consuming (I am used to drop, mix and pour) this was the best tasting cake I have ever made! The crisp flavor of the lemon and the icing really complimented the cake w/o it being too sweet! My hubby is not a fan of cake, but he tried a nibble, and took away a hunk of it! Great recipe! And now my go to summer dessert!

Corn Dogs

Reviewed: Nov. 4, 2011
I have never made corn dogs before, and this recipe was so easy and utilized everything that I had on hand. Took other reviewers advice and dried the hot dogs well before dipping in the batter that I refrigerated for 30 min. My husband, who was skeptical when he saw that I was making them said that they are better than the ones at the fair!

Apple Pie by Grandma Ople

Reviewed: Sep. 20, 2010
This was the best apple pie I have ever made! I did add a 1/2 tsp of cinnamon to the sugar mixture, as well as replaced the water with apple juice. I also reserved a 1/4 cup of the sugar mixture to brush on top of the lattice crust. It gave the lattice a nice crunchy sweet texture. Will most definitelyl make this again and again!

Restaurant-Style Buffalo Chicken Wings

Reviewed: Feb. 3, 2008
Now I see why it has gotten five out of five stars from over 500 reviewers. These wings were...dare I say AWESOME! I didn't understand why you had to refrigerate the wings for 60-90 min, until I took them out the fridge and fried them. They get all nice and gummy and form this extra crispy crust when fried. The sauce was neither too hot nor too spicy. I did use unsalted butter and omitted the salt that the recipe called for, but couldn't tell that it was missing due to the sodium of the hot sauce. Again, these were AWESOME, and definitely a make again in my house!

Cheddar Garlic Biscuits

Reviewed: Jan. 28, 2008
These biscuits were delicious! I added a bit more cheese than the recipe calls for, and I swear my hubby asked me if I got these from a restaurant! Steph!

Best Egg Rolls

Reviewed: Jan. 9, 2008
Absolutely loved them. I can't stop eating the darn things. I added more ginger and garlic, plus 1.5 tbl of soy sauce. They were easy to make, although I did it the long way...shredded everything myself. DELISH!

Honey Mustard Salad Dressing

Reviewed: Jan. 4, 2008
I had been searching for a good honey mustard dressing recipe, and when I saw one reviewer say it tastes like the one from Red Lobster, I had to make it. Well, in my opinion, I would say it tasted anything like Red Lobster. It was to runny, to vinergary, not enough mustard. I had to add more mustard about 1Tbl worth. and a bit more honey to cut down the vinegar flavor. Nothing I did thickened it, as it was just a pool of dressing on my plate. However, all that aside, it was a decent dressing, and much better than the ones I have tried in the grocery stores, but not exactly restaurant quality.

Chewiest Brownies

Reviewed: Jan. 1, 2008
Made these brownies last night. Was easy to make. I did follow some of the listed modifications though. I used 1/2 cup unsalted butter (on a sodium restricted diet), and 1/4 cup oil. Also added some chocolate chips, and walnuts. They were kind of thin for my taste, next time I will use the 9x9 pan instead of the 9x14; regardless....they were AWESOME!
