About this Cook
I've been cooking since I was 12 years old. I have 5 children, 18 Grands, 3 Great Grands. I have a 6 year old Grand who lives with me 24/7. I cook and sew, cross stitch, quilt, read in my spare time. I'm not able to do as much as I'd like too but still do some.
My favorite things to cook
Cakes, Fried Chicken with lots of black pepper, Jelly and Jams in the summer.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My Grannie taught me to cook on an old wood stove. Tea Cake Cookies were my favorite and I've always baked them for my children. She also gave me a love for putting up all the seasonal fruits and veggies from the garden.
My cooking triumphs
Wedding Cakes. I made 126 Yellow Roses for a 3 layer cake and getting them to stay on the cake was an experience. I learned a lot with that one.
My cooking tragedies
My very first pie was a peach pie. All from scratch. That pie must have weighed 10 pounds. I still to this day don't know what I did wrong. Thank goodness I haven't duplicated that one!!!!

Cream Cheese Pound Cake III
This cake was WOW. I did have to cook it 5 minutes longer than called for 1hr 30min. It did rise up really high and with a crusty top. Looked beautiful on the cake plate.

Diane's Colcannon
This recipe is even better than the old one I got from a cookbook in the eighties. Do put more bacon.

Sweet Potato Cake
This cake is wonderful. Moist and very good flavor. You can still taste the sweet potato even tho there's only 3/4 cup. I put 1 cup of rasins and run them through the chopper with a little of the Bmilk. I put Cream Cheese Frosting on it. I took it to a Church Supper. Everyone loved it.
