Jewish Style Sweet and Sour Brisket

Reviewed: Apr. 7, 2011
Delicious. It definitely took more around 3.5 hours of simmering to get tender. The vinegar plus sweetness combo in the sauce is perfect.

Salad with Prosciutto and Caramelized Pears and Walnuts

Reviewed: Apr. 20, 2010
This was pretty good but nothing so amazing that I need to make it again. The nuts came out a little soggy. It was a little sugary overall. I included the pear sauce so that is probably avoidable.

African Peanut Soup

Reviewed: Nov. 13, 2009
Ridiculously good. The vegetarian I had over thought she had died and gone to heaven. I did make it a bit heartier by borrowing from another African peanut soup recipe; I added 1 yam, 1 drained can of black beans, and 1 jalepeno. I really liked the brown rice in this recipe and the texture it gave.

Pork Tenderloin with Dijon Marsala Sauce

Reviewed: Apr. 26, 2012
The sauce is to die for. Adding sauteed sliced mushrooms makes it even better.

Chocolate Chip Pumpkin Bread

Reviewed: Oct. 28, 2010
So delicious and moist. I've made big loaves, mini loaves, normal muffins and mini muffins and all were superb. I double the chocolate chips because I've never thought "gee, there are too many chocolate chips in here" about anything. Also, I sub 1 cup of the white sugar with brown sugar.

Andy's Spicy Green Chile Pork

Reviewed: Sep. 20, 2010
Very good. I substituted chicken breasts and thighs for the pork and it was great. Also added garlic, which never hurts IMHO. I liked how the recipe has you remove some of the sauce to make it a really good consistency.

Grandma's Slow Cooker Vegetarian Chili

Reviewed: Jul. 11, 2010
Delicious. I also mixed some with sauteed hamburger meat to make part of it non-vegetarian for my husband and it was really good that way.

Chocolate Mint Dessert Brownies

Reviewed: Jan. 11, 2010
Put this on top of Ghiradelli Double Chocolate brownie mix. It was excellent. The chocolate layer on top made a nice, solid layer on top of the softer minty creamy layer. I used peppermint extract and 2 drops green food coloring.

Brie Cheese Appetizer

Reviewed: Nov. 21, 2009
This was gobbled up fast! I added toasted almond and pecans on top of the jam layer and on top of the entire thing, and while it was good, I think this recipe is perfect as written too. I think it does look pretty with pecans on top though!

Ridiculously good. Moist with great flavors. I made it as suggested.

Sour Cream Refrigerator Mashed Potatoes

Reviewed: Jul. 17, 2009
The best mashed potatoes I've ever made. Both times I've made this everyone has loved it. I did use about twice the cream cheese by accident (got ounces and Tablespoons confused) so now I'm probably going to do it that way since it was soooo good. The texture was perfect the next day when heated up.

German Apple Cake I

Reviewed: Oct. 2, 2008
This cake seems so simple when you make it, but it has the nicest smell and flavor. I made it in a bundt pan (cooked around 50 mins) and used cinnamon/powdered sugar instead of flour after the cooking spray. After cooling, I poured a glaze made with 1/3 c. melted butter, 2 c. powdered sugar, 1.5 t. vanilla, and 2.5 T. water over it. It tasted like a giant non-fried glazed apple donut. Delicious!

Baked French Toast

Reviewed: Mar. 28, 2012
So delicious, almost like a bread pudding for breakfast. I quadrupled the recipe and served it for snack to fifty 3-4 year olds. Almost all of them liked it and their parents liked it even more. It feels like you are adding too much of the butter/sugar sauce, but trust the amount the recipe gives!

Crab Rangoon III

Reviewed: Jun. 25, 2011
Delicious. It takes awhile to fold them so I'd do it a little bit in advance and cover with a wet paper towel in the meanwhile. Also, as far as dipping: sweet and sour dipping sauce was by far the best one I tried, followed by Chinese mustard.

Jalapeno Popper Spread

Reviewed: Apr. 9, 2011
As good as everyone says. This was completely gobbled up by about 6 people! I actually messed up and broiled it and burnt the top when I cooked it so I had to scrape the top layer off and re-cover it with parmesan. I actually liked it with just parmesan; the top was not a hard shell the way it was when I combined the parmesan with panko crumbs, but this might be because I only cooked it for about 5 mins with the parmesan (maybe adding the cheese on top near the end is a good idea). I definitely recommend using all 4 oz of jalepenos, and I might try more next time.

Orzo with Parmesan and Basil

Reviewed: Mar. 3, 2011
This was really easy and tasty. I didn't get any oohs or ahhs over it, but people ate it so there's that.

Extreme Chocolate Cake

Reviewed: Dec. 10, 2010
I only did two layers (didn't split the separate cakes in two) so I ended up with a lot of frosting left over. The frosting was delicious and I wish I had slathered more of it on.

Slow Cooker Thai Pork with Peppers

Reviewed: Sep. 27, 2010
This was great. I doubled the recipe and added cilantro and broccoli. I added the veggies in the middle, not at the beginning. I think coconut milk would also be a great addition. The only thing I wasn't crazy about was the pork chop toughness. The flavor was amazing though.

Banana Crumb Muffins

Reviewed: Sep. 20, 2010
I made these in normal size and mini muffins. I felt like I was putting on sooo much topping, but it was the right amount once the muffins rose, so don't be nervous about that. These muffins were fine. The topping was great, but they didn't blow me away.

Spinach and Orzo Salad

Reviewed: May 8, 2010
Very good. I halved the spinach, doubled the red onion, and added sundried tomatoes. I wouldn't say it's jawdropping, but it's very solid.
