German Apple Cake I

Reviewed: Oct. 2, 2008
This cake seems so simple when you make it, but it has the nicest smell and flavor. I made it in a bundt pan (cooked around 50 mins) and used cinnamon/powdered sugar instead of flour after the cooking spray. After cooling, I poured a glaze made with 1/3 c. melted butter, 2 c. powdered sugar, 1.5 t. vanilla, and 2.5 T. water over it. It tasted like a giant non-fried glazed apple donut. Delicious!

I loved this recipe. I made it just as stated and people said it was the best crisp they've ever had.

Sour Cream Refrigerator Mashed Potatoes

Reviewed: Jul. 17, 2009
The best mashed potatoes I've ever made. Both times I've made this everyone has loved it. I did use about twice the cream cheese by accident (got ounces and Tablespoons confused) so now I'm probably going to do it that way since it was soooo good. The texture was perfect the next day when heated up.

Sweet Restaurant Slaw

Absolute best coleslaw and so easy. Make sure to let it set for a few hours. It's not tasty right after you mix it up but after it sits it's amaaaazing.

Amy's Cilantro Cream Sauce

Reviewed: Jul. 17, 2009
Considering the ingredients, I thought this would be better. I'd much rather have guacamole and that's much easier to make.

Rich Chocolate Frosting

Reviewed: Jul. 17, 2009
It just didn't live up to the reviews for me. I mean, all chocolate frosting is good and this one is no exception, but it wasn't that special for me.

Grandmother's Buttermilk Cornbread

Reviewed: Jul. 17, 2009
Very good. I love the moistness and the density. Really good if you add some frozen corn kernels. Keeps well for a few days.

Angel Chicken Pasta

Reviewed: Jul. 17, 2009
It's very tasty, but it tastes a little lowbrow. Sort of salty and a little bit like buffet food or something. I'd recommend cutting up the chicken a bit before baking to have more chicken surfaces covered with sauce. I'd also recommend using the wine as suggested instead of replacing with broth.

Penne Russo a la Vodka

Reviewed: Oct. 2, 2009
One of the best pastas I've ever made. If anything, I'd do a little more sauce per pasta since it's a tiny bit dry on reheating. Otherwise, the flavor is just amazing.

Slow Cooker Chicken Taco Soup

Reviewed: Oct. 2, 2009
Really tasty. I think adding the cheese on top is pretty important. I served it with "Grandma's cornbread" and it was terrific.

Megan's Granola

Reviewed: Oct. 2, 2009
Everyone loved it. Very wholesome. Only downside is it goes away fast! I didn't include sunflower seeds or raisins because I'm a little bit purist about granola...

Savory Chicken Breasts

Reviewed: Oct. 6, 2009
Pretty good. I used Stovetop stuffing fully prepared on top instead of the bread crumbs and that was nice. If anything, the chicken seemed a little dry and boring on bites where you didn't get the sauce, but it was overall good and easy!

Tasty White Bread

Reviewed: Oct. 28, 2009
Very tasty out of the oven and toasted. I felt like it got a little dry pretty quickly if not toasted, but overall it was delicious.

Slow Cooker Italian Sausage Subs

Reviewed: Nov. 10, 2009
I used a combination of sweet and spicy sausages and both were terrific. My sausages were still firm and not fall-y-apart-y, but I liked that.

African Peanut Soup

Reviewed: Nov. 13, 2009
Ridiculously good. The vegetarian I had over thought she had died and gone to heaven. I did make it a bit heartier by borrowing from another African peanut soup recipe; I added 1 yam, 1 drained can of black beans, and 1 jalepeno. I really liked the brown rice in this recipe and the texture it gave.

Brie Cheese Appetizer

Reviewed: Nov. 21, 2009
This was gobbled up fast! I added toasted almond and pecans on top of the jam layer and on top of the entire thing, and while it was good, I think this recipe is perfect as written too. I think it does look pretty with pecans on top though!

Chocolate Mint Dessert Brownies

Reviewed: Jan. 11, 2010
Put this on top of Ghiradelli Double Chocolate brownie mix. It was excellent. The chocolate layer on top made a nice, solid layer on top of the softer minty creamy layer. I used peppermint extract and 2 drops green food coloring.

Chocolate Frosting II

Reviewed: Jan. 11, 2010
I used just 3 c. of the powdered sugar and I had to basically double the milk to 4 T. to get it to a good, spreadable consistency. I also beat in 1/3 a bag of mini chocolate chips at the end because I love frosting that way (and so do most people I've served it to). Worked well on a yellow layer cake for me.
