Shepherd's Pie VI

Reviewed: May 31, 2011
I was disappointed with this recipe. Not because it was gross, but because it lacked flavor. I added the worchestier (sp?) sauce, plus used beef gravy instead of broth, also added minced garlic to the meat while cooking, but it still lacked flavor. I have made this before using lots of spices and it had a wonderful flavor. Maybe because I had something to compare it to is why I am disappointed. We all ate it, but I wont make it again and I am going to search high and low for the recipe I used before.

Black Bean and Salsa Soup

Reviewed: Sep. 14, 2010
I defiantly loved this. I altered for 6 servings and left one can whole. Also added a little salt and pepper and jalapenos, cilantro and used chicken broth instead of vegetable broth. Next time I make, which I'm sure will be soon I will had some chicken to make it more filling. Thanks so much for the recipe I LOVE SOUP!!

we did NOT like this at all. I followed the recipe to a tee and the skin never got even close to crispy, which is what we love. I will never make this again. sorry for the poor review, but I have no clue what went wrong, I didn't change a thing....

Blackened Tilapia with Secret Hobo Spices

Reviewed: Aug. 30, 2010
made this tonight, without reading the reviews. after I seasoned the fish, I thought about how spicy it was going to be so I sent out my husband to grab Mc Donald's for the kids. I didn't change a thing, except I didn't add the bread just because of choice and we LOVED it! It was a little spicy, but perfect for us. from now on this is the only way I shall make blackened fish! Thanks so much for the recipe!!!

Super-Simple, Super-Spicy Mongolian Beef

Reviewed: Jun. 22, 2010
we LOVED this and so did both of my kids ages 11 and 5. I doubled the recipe and did half soy sauce and half fish sauce (bought from an Asian supermarket). Since I was doubling I only added one tablespoon of the red pepper flakes, but just because my kids were eating it too. Next time they are not here for dinner I will add the second tablespoon for more of a kick, but we love spicy. I also was only able to marinade for about an hour and it still had great flavor. This is so simple and so delicious that I can't wait for left overs today!

Vietnamese Fresh Spring Rolls

Reviewed: May 24, 2010
this was so very good! I did change mine a little to fit my taste. I added the boiled pork (its a must for us) and I also did shredded carrots and bean sprouts. I left out the mint because we are just not a fan of it. The second time I made these I did much better at wrapping them. My boyfriend is half Vietnamese and he said he would think I was Asian with how good I did the second time, lol! I found that if I put the stuff more to one side, then roll it, it held together better. Also, just run the rice paper under warm water just till it is flexible, then I put a little bowl of water to dip my fingers in to moisten it where needed, when needed. Oh and I also made the sauce with 1 part crunchy peanut butter and 2 parts Hoisin sauce, and it was very yummy! My daughter, who is part Vietnamese just said she loves me the most because I can make them now :), if it was up to her, she would eat them for breakfast, lunch and dinner! Thanks so much for the recipe!! :) I will probably make these for the rest of my life!

Slow-Cooker Chicken Tortilla Soup

Reviewed: Dec. 16, 2009
very very yummy!! having it again for lunch today :) the only things I did different was I tossed in 4 frozen chicken breast and shredded then about 3 hours later, also I only used chicken stock, no water and added an extra clove of garlic oh and also used bagged tortilla chips. Next time, I think I will saute the onions first to make sure they get nice and soft. For some reason I could still kinda feel the crunch of the onion in my soup and I just can't stand it. I like the flavor, but not the crunch, lol, weird, I know. Oh and next time I will also use the tomatoes that are already diced. Oh and my 4 year old and 11 year olds ate this. I used mild sauce and they thought it was a little spicy, but they still ate it :). Then again they are part part Mexican so maybe they are just used to the spice. I'm sure I will be making this soup a lot this winter. Huge hit and super easy!! Thank you Elena!!

Homestyle Turkey, the Michigander Way

Reviewed: Nov. 26, 2009
ok, so I made this tonight for our turkey dinner and I had 12 guest. WOW, it was a hit!!! so, so, sooooo juicy! I had a 26 pound turkey (yes, I wanted major leftovers :) ), so I doubled the seasoning. But considering I woke up at 4am and still needed to find a recipe that I already had everything for, I just skimmed through it while reading, Anyways, I thought it said to combine all the seasonings together and sprinkle the turkey. So I doubled everything and totally forgot the warm water step! I just added the boullion with the rest of the spices. Also, I didn't even just sprinkle with the seasoning salt, I added that to the all the spices. Covered the whole thing in a TON of butter, plus under the skin, then placed onion wedges (a whole white onion) and about 10 cloves of garlic. SO VERY YUMMY!!! Super easy and even better tasting!! Thanks so much Robin C., you helped make my Thanksgiving PERFECT!

Tasty 2-Step Chicken

Reviewed: Oct. 27, 2009
We Loved this! I did season the chicken breast with garlic salt and pepper, then after I added the cream of chicken I added dried minced onion and fresh mushrooms and had to cover and simmer for about 15 - 20 minutes (considering my chicken breast were very thick). Very good, esp since I didn't have to go to the store and had all these ingredients!!

Restaurant Style Egg Drop Soup

Reviewed: Sep. 24, 2009
omg!!! so good!! and so easy! i needed to go to the grocery store, but just didn't really want to and my 4 year old wanted soup, so i looked on AR and this is what i came up with that i knew she would love (she is part Vietnamese and eats like them, so soup is a favorite). the whole pot was gone with just my 2 kids and myself. the only thing i did different was i didn't have enough chicken broth. so i added 2 cans of chicken broth and one slightly bigger can of vegetable broth, added green onions instead and used 3 eggs with one egg yolk. VERY VERY GOOD!! for sure i will make this often!! thank you so much W.J. Cory!!

Spaghetti Carbonara II

Reviewed: Jul. 29, 2009
First let me say that this is something no one in my family would have ever thought of even trying, but I LOVED this and so did my kids! I couldn't figure out why there was no sauce but after I looked at the recipe again, after eating it all, I realised I forgot one of the eggs, plus I didn't have any wine in the house. Next time I will double the bacon, remember all the eggs, add the wine and maybe even add some heavy cream. This is going into my rotation! About time we got to eat something different than what we always eat! Thanks so much!!

Ranch Dressing II

Reviewed: Jul. 14, 2009
I would give it 5 stars if it would have told me to buy buttermilk. The flavor was great but it was more for a dip like others have said (I try to follow the instruction, but now I know maybe I should listen). I will for sure make it again, but if it's for a salad then FOR SURE buttermilk for the actual dressing consistency

Barbecued Beef Ribs for Two

I wont make these again. Maybe it's just I don't like beef ribs. To me the ribs were just way to fatty. I'll stick to pork ribs from now on.

Sylvia's Ribs

Reviewed: Jul. 14, 2009
I halved the recipe and added 3 cloves on minced garlic and about 3 dashes of hot pepper sauce. Oh my God!!! So GOOD!! I will use this BBQ sauce from now on! Both of mt kids, ages 10 and 4 LOVED it. The 4 year old hardly ever eats meat so when she gave me the first compliment I knew it was a hit. Everyone cleaned the bones and they were oh so tender. We finished ours on the grill after a little over an hour of boiling. I just didn't want to turn on the oven considering it was over 100 degrees outside. VERY, VERY, VERY GOOD!! I will ONLY make my ribs this way from now on. I would give it 10 stars if I could! Definitely a MUST TRY.

Amazing Pork Tenderloin in the Slow Cooker

we did not like this at all. I stuffed the pork with garlic, but it was way to salty! And that says a lot because I LOVE salt, but not when its the only thing you can taste. I won't be making this again. sorry for the bad review

Slow Cooker Carnitas

Reviewed: May 26, 2009
this is the best recipe I think I've ever tried on AR! so easy and delicious. from now on I will only use this recipe for carnitas. Oh, but I didn't add the cinnamon. I just couldn't make myself do it, lol, but it still came out great. I'll be making this again and often! thanks for the recipe!

Pork Steak Burritos

Reviewed: Mar. 17, 2009
I made this last night and was actually surprized at how good it was! I did season the pork with salt, pepper and cumin. My pork steaks had a lot of fat on them and were pretty thick so after they were done cooking I cut them into cubes and took off all the fat. I also added shredded cheese and fresh tomato, avacado, green onion, and jalapeno. Soooooo good!! Thanks for the recipe, I will use it often!
