Terrific Turkey Chili

Reviewed: Feb. 4, 2012
Made this as written and it was rated "best taste" at an office chili competition. Definitely better two days later when all the flavors soaked into the chili. I was also pleasantly surprised by the zucchinni, though I like the pieces cut a little smaller.

Amish White Bread

Reviewed: Sep. 19, 2011
This is the best bread recipe ever. I make it all the time and even the pickiest person in my family gets excited when I make this. It is very sweet and can be used for cinnamon roll dough, too.

Mom's Macaroni and Cheese

Reviewed: Jun. 20, 2011
Great, easy recipe. My picky husband said this was "the best macaroni and cheese I'v ever had". I followed the suggestions to use 2 cups of uncooked macaroni noodles with 2 cups of cheese. I also doubled the topping per another reviewer's suggestion.

Creole Butter Beans

Yum! What a great way to eat veggies. I served this alongside gumbo and a big bowl of rice. Even my "I'll never eat vegetables" guest enjoyed this one.

Chicken Andouille Gumbo

Reviewed: Dec. 11, 2010
This is one of my all time favorite meals. It takes a lot of work, but it is definitely worth the time. I have consistently made it with a roux, cheated by using a frozen package of gumbo mix, and used ham seasoned with cajun seasoning (in my opinion it isn't worth all the effort without the ham).

Savory Vegetable Beef Stew

Reviewed: Nov. 29, 2010
Good, heart-warming stew. I tastes so much better after sitting in the fridge for a few days and being rewarmed. It lets the flavors really soak into the meat and veggies. It won second place in a stew competition. So good stuff - not the best, but definitely makes a delicious dinner.

Cherry Dump Pudding

Reviewed: Jul. 29, 2010
Mmm! I followed the recipe exactly and it was scrumptious. Best served hot with vanilla ice cream. Like another reviewer stated, this is more like a cake than a "pudding". I used a round casserole dish that was pretty deep and it had just the right amount of room.

Easy Iced Coffee

Reviewed: Jul. 28, 2010
So easy!!! I've been making a glass of this every morning since I found this recipe last week. (I add a squirt of chocolate sauce in mine to make it mocha.) Faster than brewing a pot of coffee and perfect for hot summer days.

Key Lime Pie VII

Reviewed: Jun. 29, 2010
This stuff is amazing! I served it at a dinner party and everyone loved it. My husband's coworker suggested I enter it into the company dessert competition. It reminds me a lot of cheesecake because it is so creamy, but it has plenty of kick to it with that key lime. I made it exactly as directed, except my 20 limes didn't completely step up to the challenge. I added a tiny bit of lemon juice to make that 3/4 cup mark and ended up short on the zest. I'm sure it depends on the limes, but next time I think I'll try 30. Also 3 cups of sweetened condensed milk was just over 2 cans. I opened up a third can and I'm glad I did - the ratio of lime to cream was perfect. Thanks for the great recipe!

Loved it! Made it exactly as directed with two minor substitutions (used meatballs instead of ground beef and sliced mozarella instead of provolone). Yummy!

Chicken and Broccoli Braid

Reviewed: Apr. 14, 2010
I've been making this recipe for years now and my husband begs for it. If you make sure to steam/saute the veggies first, this recipe is wonderful as is - no modifications are necessary in my opinion. Having made it so many times, though, I can tell you that it is a pretty versatile recipe - don't be too afraid to tweak it to ingredients you happen to have around. For instance, I don't usually have a red bell pepper or almonds around, so I just increase the amount of broccoli by 1/2 cup. The change doesn't affect the outcome at all. I also will often make this with a bread dough recipe instead of crescent rolls (which are more expensive.) When we lived overseas and cheese was hard to find I made it with velveeta. Great recipe!

Perfect when made exactly according to the recipe. A little extra sauce can't hurt, though. Even my extremely picky boys loved this and asked me to make it over and over again.

Roasted Butternut Squash Soup with Apples and Bacon

Reviewed: Oct. 11, 2009
This recipe took so much time to make! It has a unique flavor that isn't bad, it is just not what my husband and I are used to. I can see why a lot of people liked it, but we ended up throwing it out.

Eggplant Parmesan II

Reviewed: Oct. 11, 2009
Great dish as is! Per another reviewer's suggestion I did add an extra step to "sweat" the eggplant before baking it, and I cooked the eggplant at a higher temperature. I made no changes in ingredients, though. I thought it was some of the best eggplant parmesan I'd ever had. Both my husband and I thought it was better than Olive Garden's version. I really liked that it was baked. The eggplant itself turned out perfectly crispy and was good enough to eat on its own before all the cheese and spaghetti sauce were added. Great recipe.
