French Beef Stew

Reviewed: Mar. 16, 2008
This is a very good stew. I love the flavors. I did only use one can of tomatoes, as I knew the kid would complain and he did with just one can. I also did not have dijon, but substituted spicey brown mustard, I only did 1tbs. I did as directed and all in one pan put on lid and let set for a hour and dinner. ***I am thinking this recipe would be good over rice, leave out the potatoes and add onions, cabbage or other veggies.. new dish.

Cake Balls

Reviewed: Mar. 15, 2008
There were so many mixed reviews on this one. I used the Duncan Hines Devils Food. I only used 1 cup water and 1/4 cup oil when making the cake. I also let the cake cool before mixing. I cut in half as there is only two of us. I crumbled the cake in bowl and I mixed in 1 cup of peanut butter and 1/4 cup of DOVE Chocolate Ice cream topping. I like the concept but knew we would not like the frosting. I mixed this with my dough beaters and then by hand. I used my scoop to make half round balls, with flat bottoms. I put in fridge for a hour. Half a cake made 20 nice size balls. I then melted 1/2 cup semi sweet chips and added 1 tbs peanut butter. I dipped 10 of them, put back in fridge. I served them with Ice Cream for dessert, topped with the Dove topping on the ice cream. I iced the other half of the cake with the Cream Cheese Frosting II from this site. These were good this way. I was going for a kinda Reeses, cake ball.

Golden Crescent Rolls

Reviewed: Mar. 11, 2008
WOO HOO.. I did it with the help from my fellow foodies support. These were wonderful. I divided the recipe as there is only two of us. I made crescents for dinner. Then I made Cinnamon Rolls for dessert. I put butter, cinnamon, brown sugar on the dough after rolling out. Rolled that up and sliced, put in round pan to raise. When they came out I topped with cream cheese frosting II from this site. I had some in the fridge, it keeps very well. It melted over these very nicely. Thanks so much!!

Lemon Garlic Tilapia

Reviewed: Mar. 10, 2008
This had good flavor and was easy to prepare. I used all the ingredients in the recipe. I just did it in this order. I put the fish in the dish and put the lemon juice on each piece and let set while I started other parts of dinner, probably about 10 min or so. I also had melted the butter added the garlic and parsley let sit also. Then just before putting oven I poured the butter, garlic, parsley over the fish. I had read some reviews that said that it was bland. I think letting the flavors mix helps. My son missed the fact that I usually put crouton crumbs on top, so next time I will use this combo of flavors, but top his with his croutons. O I also did a small dish of scallops this way too. Thanks

Snow on the Mountain Green Beans

Reviewed: Mar. 10, 2008
I love fresh green beans and this is definitly a good way to fix them. They were easy to fix and the flavor was great. I only made 1/2 of the recipe, more than enough for two. I think for health reasons I will leave out the butter next time. I served this with the Lemon Garlic Tilapia from this site. It was a good combination for dinner. Thanks so much for sharing. N*R

Best Tapenade Ever

Reviewed: Mar. 5, 2008
I made half of this recipe and it will fill a 7 ounce jar when done. This is wonderful on toasted baguette bread, or crackers. I am going to try it on a wrap or sandwich also. After setting overnight you can taste the flavors in this spread. I made in my blender and did not take much time at all. Thanks!

Fluffy Pancakes

Reviewed: Mar. 1, 2008
These were very fluffy and texture was good. I think they might have been a little plain had I not added a little vanilla. I also only used 1/4 tsp salt, as we watch salt here and I don't think they needed the salt. To the posters that thought these were to 'SALTY', you might want to check your "baking soda" for the expire date, if its old it will make things taste salty. My fav way to top, peanut butter, bananas and syrup.

Brown Sugar Smokies

Reviewed: Feb. 29, 2008
I have had these at parties. I love them, I made them tonight at home and I must say.. they are better after sitting in crockpot at the party. I think its because the sugar melds in rather than just taking them out of the oven and eating. LEFTOVER IDEA.. cut up and put in pork n beans..

Rasta Pasta

Reviewed: Feb. 27, 2008
This is an amazing dish. If you are looking for something different to do with chicken this is it. My son loved it! If you don't like a lot of "heat" I suggest you leave out the red pepper flakes or only use 1/4 tsp. I only made half of this recipe as there is only 2 of us eating and with 1/2 tsp we had the heat. We like heat so that did not bother us. I used Barilla Marinara for the sauce. We will make this again. You want to serve with a slice of bread for the "heat". My kitchen smelled wonderful while cooking. I did this meal in my wok that goes on top my stove. I did use olive oil for browning the chicken. Also it says just heat through after adding sauce, I actually let it cook for about 15 min or so. I wanted all my flavors to meld. LEFTOVER IDEA.. MMMMM... I am thinking taking the sauce mixture with chicken and putting on sub bun with moz or bleu cheese and under broiler.. wow.. or in a tortilla for a wrap..

Whole Wheat Beer Bread

Reviewed: Feb. 23, 2008
This is a great recipe, I melted butter to put on top before baking. I also put some flax in mine, just because I try to add flax to things you can not notice it in. I also had made some honey/butter to spread on the bread. This is a much better recipe than the self rising flour recipes. Do not let your beer set to get flat, its the fiz and yeast that make the bread, just open the beer and pour. I won't spend money on Tastfully Simple box again.

Cheese Fondue

Reviewed: Feb. 22, 2008
This was good, you should like swiss if you are going to make this also. I think I will try with apple cider next time, as my son liked it but would like to try something else besides the wine next time. My fondue pot can go in the micro, so I heated to get it to melt quicker, no problem with lumps. We had a Fun Friday Fondue night, picnic on the floor. We dipped shrimp, granny smith apples, bread and I had got a strip steak cut in pieces and I had fried in oil before. If you have leftovers, use it to put in FRENCH ONION SOUP.. YUM.

Spicy Chicken and Cilantro Wontons

Reviewed: Feb. 22, 2008
I had been wanting to make these. I realized I had chicken with cilantro already in it leftover from sour cream enchiladas the night before. So I took 1 Cup of the shreaded chicken mixture, added 1/2 tsp. ginger, 1/8 tsp red pepper flakes, 1/2 tsp terrayki sauce. Mixed well then spooned 1tsp of mixture in each wonton. These were very good. We dipped in sweet sour sauce and hot mustard.

Easy Chicken Taco Filling

Reviewed: Feb. 21, 2008
This recipe left like it is gets a low rating, because bland. I used leftover chicken I had from the baked crockpot chicken, I shredded, added fresh chopped cilantro, 1 tsp. cumin, 1 tsp. chili powder, fresh garlic, added just enough broth to simmer, chopped onion, green pepper and roma tomatoe. Then filled wheat tortilla with mixture added cheese to melt. Pretty healthy taco.

Sour Cream Chicken Enchiladas

Reviewed: Feb. 21, 2008
I made this tonight, I did do some tweeking as I did not have chilies or the type of salsa you are talking about. I put chicken in pot shreaded, added chopped cilantro, 3 garlic cloves minced, 1 tsp chilli powder, 1 tsp. cumin, plus the onion, I probably had about 1/4 cup chicken stock, let that simmer on low all day so the flavors would mix. I used lowfat sourcream and then I added what salsa I had here and the cilantro, I also chopped a 1/4 green pepper, banana pepper and another mild pepper (I had them in freezer from the garden). I then filled the wheat tortillas with chicken mixture, added some cheese and some of the sour cream mixture. I then folded seam side down and top with the sourcream mixture and the cheddar cheese. My son loved it, said it was better than the restaurant. To the poster below, use what spices your family likes, mine did not have much heat to it at all but did have flavor.
