About this Cook
Hello! I live in northeast Md. on the Md./Del./Pa. border, halfway between Baltimore and Philadelphia and close to the Chesapeake Bay. I have 4 children, am recently divorced after 28 years of marriage cuz hubby loved my cooking, but liked to sample other restaurants, so to speak. I have a beautiful 3 year old granddaughter who lights up my life, and have loved to cook since I was 10 years old. I recently sold my business, so I am looking to spend more time in the kitchen!
My favorite things to cook
Cheese enchilada's, (my Mom's from El Paso)/ Any kind of soup/ Chicken cordon bleu in a veloute sauce/ Cheesecake/ Christmas cookies/ Anything with crabmeat or shrimp/ Signature vegetable casseroles/ Awesome appetizers/ Slow grilled ham/Holiday Meals
My favorite family cooking traditions
I have always been the cook for the crowds. I catered a number of large family events, assembled a family cookbook for a reunion, cook most of the holiday meals, love Christmas baking, love ethnic, like to surprise the very boring palates in this rural area. Learned to cook from my Mom and Grandma, who could bake but I can't, and hope to pass it down to some of my children.
My cooking triumphs
Hard to say, every time I cook, it changes. I rarely work from a recipe, but it usually turns out ok. Probably my greatest triumph, catering a party for about 150 for my father-in-laws 60th birthday. Amazingly, everything turned out great.
My cooking tragedies
Seventh grade home economics class, final exam "Christmas cookies." The teach allowed my group to pick a cookie that was over budget for the classroom. Each of us had our own assignment. When it came time to add the flour, one of our group grabbed the bag of wheat paste instead of the flour. We didn't pass the final exam.

Chicken Fettuccini Alfredo
I decided to try this recipe after seeing several people on Recipe Buzz comment on it. After reading the reviews, I decided to make it as is, with no alterations. First, for anyone looking for a true Alfredo, this is not your recipe. But, the combination of ingredients was lovely. Some reviews said theirs came out runny and watery, but I had the opposite outcome and added a bit more half and half. The true beauty of this recipe is that it is extremely adaptable. Eliminate the chicken and throw in an assortment of veggies and it would make a wonderful primavera. Double the parmesan, eliminate the tomato and mushrooms and cheddar, and it would be a lighter version of a true Alfredo. This would work well with shrimp or scallops as well. Thanks, Emily...I will add this to our pasta rotation.

Slow Cooker Italian Beef for Sandwiches
This was excellent. The only changes that I made were to substitute beef broth for water, and 1.5 packets of the Italian Seasoning. I had it ready to serve opening day of football, and it was devoured. People had the option of using barbecue sauce, horseradish, or eating it French dip was a big hit.

Department Store Onion Soup
This was outstanding! I didn't have white wine, so I substituted a Chianti, and I think the wine is essential to the success of the recipe. I also used a blend of swiss, mozerella and parmesan cheese. I counted on leftovers for lunch tomorrow, but even my son who doesn't usually eat onions loved this, so there isn't any left!
