Original Homemade Italian Beef

Reviewed: Apr. 5, 2010
This is it! I'm from Chicago and since I do not live there now, I forever crave THE Italian Beef sandwich. Only Chicagoans know what I'm talkin' 'bout. This recipe is as close as it gets. I read the other reviews first and altered the recipe accordingly. I bought a 1.75 lb. chuck roast. I used 2 C of Beef stock instead of water, 1 packet of dry italian italian salad dressing mix, 1/2 jar of pepperoncini juice (served the peppers on the side), 3 bulbs of garlic and I threw in some italian seasoning and addt'l Oregano. I could not insult this recipe by putting it on a hamburger bun, so I found some great pane rolls at the bakery and they were perfect. I cooked on high for 4 hrs and 2 more hours on low. My husband said this was the best tasting roast meat he has ever had. I will be making this recipe again and again. Thank you!!!

Vegetable Curry

Reviewed: Oct. 19, 2009
Delicious! I followed the others suggestions to use chicken broth and/or water while simmering the potatoes and cauliflower. I used 1 cup broth and 1 cup water. Next time I will use 1/2 cup more of each, I would have liked just a bit more sauce. I also added a few other things for a bit more spice and flavor; 1/2 tsp. curry paste, 1/2 tsp. chili powder, 1 tsp. garlic, 1 tsp. fresh grated ginger and I did use additional curry and turmeric. Thanks very much for the recipe and the added suggestions to make the exact curry dish I was looking for!

Shrimp Tempura

Reviewed: Nov. 2, 2009
Excellent! We made chicken nuggets instead of shrimp. Served it over rice with soy sauce, butter, green onions. Super scrummy. The chicken takes a bit longer than the shrimp recipe called for . I didn't know exactly how long to fry the chicken bits, so I kept taking one out and cutting it in half until it was cooked. Seemed like a long process, but totally worth it, will make it again and again. Thanks!

Creamy Tuna Noodle Casserole

Reviewed: Mar. 17, 2012
This was super good. Beware - this makes a vat of tuna casserole! After 5 large helpings between my husband and I, we still had enough left over to feed the neighbors - All of them. Not that I did, I'm just sayin'. I will make half the recipe next time and full recipe for pot lucks. CHANGES: I used about 15 Ritz crackers and I added cheese under the cracker/butter combo. Super Yum- Thanks!

Red Lentil Curry

Reviewed: Nov. 2, 2009
I have tried this recipe twice already and although my husband said he liked it very much and had good flavor, I have to say that I was disappointed both times. Something about those lentils! They ended up mushy and the whole dish just looked like a big plate of mush. Too much tomato flavor for a curry dish.

Japanese Ginger Salad Dressing

Reviewed: Jun. 20, 2011
I agree with the other reviews, way less olive oil. Start out with way less Soy sauce also. If I was going to try to make this recipe again, I would start out like I was making salad dressing for one and add more ingredients bit by bit. I over-soy sauced right out of the gait and had to throw it all away.

Chicken Cacciatore

Reviewed: Jul. 7, 2010
This was excellent! I never had chicken cacciatore before and this was so good, my husband and I loved it. Great leftovers too. I chopped the onions instead of slicing them into rings and I added a sweet red pepper as another reviewer suggested. Great, easy recipe, I will definitely make this again and again. Thanks!

Creamy Au Gratin Potatoes

Reviewed: Jun. 22, 2011
Oh my, these are YUMMY! My husband and I polished off almost an entire pan. I considered omitting the onions because I really don't like cooked onions. But I wanted the flavor. I'm glad I left them in, they cooked up so soft I couldn't even tell they were in there, but I could taste them. Did I mention these were delicious? Thank you!

Pad Thai

Reviewed: Dec. 7, 2009
Not sure what happened here. I followed the recipe and I had to do so much altering to this dish to make it edible. Very dry and bland and messy! I got very frustrated making this dish and and felt that this recipe lacked a back up plan. I don't recommend putting yourself through the aggravation of this recipe.

Chicken and Bacon Fajitas

Reviewed: Dec. 7, 2009
Very good!! I made a few small changes... I used regular bacon. I didn't add the tomatoes. I added a dash of worcester sauce and a dash of soy sauce. We loved it and will definitely make these again. Thanks!

Parmesan Chicken

Reviewed: Nov. 2, 2009
Love the parmesan chicken! I make this alot now. I never have parmesan on hand, so I don't use it and I always forget the basil. So, I just use other spices I have on hand and it is super delicious. We serve with Angel hair.

Seafood Cioppino

Reviewed: May 2, 2012
This was absolutely delicious!! I would give this more stars. I didn't have a red chile pepper so I used a small amount of red pepper flakes instead. I used shrimp, scallops and Talapia, instead of Cod, as recommended by another reviewer. It was even better the next day. I will make this again and this will be great for my dinner party! Thank you for the great recipe!

Butter Cookies IV

Excellent butter cookie recipe! I used the Sugar Cookie frosting from this site for the frosting and the cookies were a hit. I made these for a Christmas cookie swap and topped with crushed candy canes. I will make these again. Thank you!

Simple Scones

Reviewed: Jul. 7, 2010
Although I didn't find these that simple to make with the grating of the butter and working it in with my hands and all, it was a bit messy. But the deliciousness made up for any personal complaints (laziness) I can make about preparing them. I left out the raisins. It went great with the Easy Devonshire Cream recipe from this site and rasberry preserves, so yummy! Thanks for the recipe.

Easy Devonshire Cream

Reviewed: Jul. 7, 2010
This is a very good substitute for devonshire cream. It definitely needed more sugar though to make up for not being the real thing. I added a bit more sugar here and there as I mixed. It went great with the Simple Scones recipe from this site and rasberry preserves - so yummy! Thanks!

Greek Chicken

Reviewed: Dec. 7, 2009
Super-duper yum. This is the Greek chicken recipe I was looking for. I forgot I was supposed to marinate, so that part didn't get done. I made it with greek potatoes and it all turned out great. I used two lemons with 8 pieces of chicken and it was enough lemon flavor. Thanks!

Spanish Rice II

Reviewed: Nov. 2, 2009
This is super yummy! We make blackened chicken strips to go with it. After the rice is finished, the rice is a bit sticky, but it looks like any spanish rice I've ever eaten anyway, so I didn't pay it no mind. I've made this about 5 times and will make it at least that many more times. Thanks!
