About this Cook
I am currently using allrecipes to learn to be a better cook. I am a vegetarian, and previously my repertoire of meals has been fairly limited. Now I'm cooking up a storm! I have been successfully cooking dishes that I previously wouldn't have dreamed of trying, and hosting dinner parties with rave reviews from my guests.
My favorite things to cook
As I am currently living in Canada, I have been taking advantage of the cooler climate by baking a lot more often. I'm primarily baking main courses rather than desserts. But I have attempted snack bars & crunchy breakfast granola that are tasty and healthy.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Not a very strong cooking tradition in my family (perhaps why I have been a poor cook!), but I do use a recipe from my sister for Spectacular Brown Rice Salad that is awesome.
My cooking triumphs
My Roast Vegetable Lasagna has been a hit even with the carnivores. My attempt at an Indian Feast including Green Chutney, Raita and Cucumber Salad was also a winner.
My cooking tragedies
MY main problem is how long it can take me to cook something - sometimes more than twice as long as the recipe indicates! I believe lots more practice will cure that... My husband is always happy to taste the results!

Green Chutney
YUM! This chutney is amazing. I did leave out the peanuts & add mint as several other people suggested, mainly because I was trying to recreate a chutney that I had tried at an excellent Indian restaurant recently. At first I didn't think this one was as good, but my guests raved about it. Then the next day I tasted it again - WOW, so tasty. Thanks very much!

Tuna Garden Casserole
Great recipe! I altered some of the ingredients as I didn't have everything required, but it was still ended up tasting great: * didn't have the soup, so used milk; * added a dash of chilli powder; & * used broccoli instead of kale. I also more than doubled the pasta required (must have bigger appetites than the author!). March 23, 2008 - I have made this recipe several more times with all the ingredients to hand, except I cannot source Kale. Continued using broccoli instead - tastes fantastic. Thanks.
