Master Pizza Dough

Reviewed: Aug. 11, 2014
This crust was everything I was looking for...crusty on the outside and chewy inside. I used high-gluten flour which made all the difference for me!

Blueberry Pie

Reviewed: Aug. 4, 2014
The flavor was great although it turned out a little runny. I used frozen blueberries. I should have rinsed them under running water then blotted them dry before tossing them with the dry ingredients. I will definitely try this recipe again!

Roasted Chickpeas

Reviewed: Jan. 18, 2014
I decided to do a test-run prior to Super Bowl. 20 minutes at 450 was no good. A few burned, some were crunchy, and some were still soft. I'll try lowering the temp and stirring them occasionally for a more even result. Seemed like 2 Tbl. of oil was too much so I'll cut down on that, too. I'll have to try again and tweak the temp and baking times for a better outcome.

Chocolate Roll I

Reviewed: Jul. 26, 2013
I was skeptical to try this recipe because of mediocre reviews, but I'm glad I did. I used 4 eggs because that's all I had. I didn't experience the cracking other reviewers did. I oil-sprayed the pan, lined it with wax paper, then sprayed the paper. When I took the cake out, I sifted powdered sugar on the cake, topped it with a clean towel backed with a plastic cutting board (for support), and flipped the cake onto the towel. (The paper stayed in the pan!) I took it to Bible study last night and everyone loved it. I set it out half an hour before serving to soften the chocolate a bit.

Judy's Strawberry Pretzel Salad

Reviewed: Jul. 4, 2013
I used a 10" springform pan. I used only 1/2 cup of butter in the crust and found the butter didn't seep out the bottom as other reviewers experienced. My only downfall was since I used frozen strawberries, it cooled the gelatin faster than I expected and 15 minutes in the frig was way too long. So I had to slightly "melt" the gelatin on the stove before topping the cream layer. Other than that, it turned out pretty darn yummy!

Special Buttercream Frosting

Reviewed: May 15, 2013
The texture was great. I should've read other people's reviews before making it; I assumed it was a great recipe. It tasted like mildly-sweetened shortening. Next time, I'll use half butter and half shortening, and see if it'll taste better

Fruit Pizza with White Chocolate

Reviewed: Apr. 6, 2013
This a great and easy recipe. I used fat-free cream cheese, and everyone never even noticed! The hardest part for me is coming up with a pretty fruit design!

Fresh Blueberry Pie III

Reviewed: Feb. 20, 2013
I was looking for a blueberry pie filling for a tart, and this was perfect. I cut down the lemon juice to 1 tsp. and it was great! Curious to see if this recipe would work with other fruits.

Banana Cake X

Reviewed: Feb. 18, 2013
I made this cake last week for Valentine's day, and baked it in a heart-shaped pan. It puffed up really high while baking, then sank while cooling. Once I inverted the pan, everything was fine. Next time, I'll try cutting the baking soda in half to half a teaspoon instead a full teaspoon. That might prevent the excess height during baking. The cake turned out good, but not out-of-this-world.

Apple Turnovers

Reviewed: Jan. 30, 2013
The recipe sounded easy, but I was disappointed. The syrup was too thin even though I added a little more cornstarch as others suggested. For the second sheet of dough, I used mini pie pans, lined with a piece of dough, filled with the apples and sauce, then brought up four corners of the dough to make a packet. That seemed to prevent seepage. All that's missing is a scoop of vanilla ice crean!

Mexican Lasagna

Reviewed: Jul. 23, 2012
This lasagna tasted great. My husband loved it! The only disappointment to me was the fact that the tortillas disintegrated in the dish. All the mexican tastes were there, just the texture of the tortillas was missing. I did add a chopped onion and tubed cilantro while browning the meat, yellow hominy, and more colby cheese, then topped with sliced green onion. I'll have to do some experimenting with the tortillas for a better outcome!

BBQ Chuck Roast

Reviewed: Jul. 14, 2012
This was just okay. My husband says it was too vinegary - could've been from the bbq sauce I used. I cooked it in the crock pot, so it was very tender. The flavor was good; but nothing spectacular. Maybe next time, I'll smoke it as one reviewer suggested.

Pineapple Banana Bread

Reviewed: Jul. 11, 2012
I halved the recipe and used three mini loaf pans (3 1/2" x 6") and they finished baking in 35 minutes. I used 1 cup white flour and 1/2 cup wheat; 1/2 cup white sugar and 1/2 cup brown, then threw in chopped walnuts. It turned out w-o-n-d-e-r-f-u-l!

White Chocolate Fruit Tart

Reviewed: Jul. 4, 2012
I made this for the first time and took it to a get-together today. I used a 12" springform pan because that's all I had. It turned out great! Everyone absolutely loved it. The crust tasted like a shortbread cookie. I can't wait to make it again with other fruits.

Simple BBQ Ribs

Reviewed: Jun. 24, 2012
These ribs were amazing! I used boneless country-style ribs and used only 1 Tbl. of salt in the boiling water. I baked them covered for 45 minutes then uncovered and broiled for 5 minutes. We didn't miss that extra tablespoon of salt!

Salmon Patties I

Reviewed: Jun. 20, 2012
These were pretty tasty. Before frying, I coated them with Panko bread crumbs which gave them a crispy coating. I'll be making these again!

Salmon Patties II

Reviewed: Apr. 28, 2012
These turned out so good. My husband loved them. My batch made 6 big patties. I used 1/4 cup of flour and 1/4 cup panko bread crumbs, which made for a crispier crust. Everything held together without any problems. Next time, I'll add finely chopped celery for a little more texture.

Cinnamon Sweet Potato Chips

Reviewed: Apr. 15, 2012
These turned out okay. I used a mandolin to slice the potatoes which worked out great. I tried a lower oven temp (375) to prevent burning. Some still burned, some were crispy, and some where soft. Next time, I will try another baking method. There's got to be another way to perfect them!

Spicy Cilantro Dressing

Reviewed: Jan. 17, 2012
This was a delicious dressing! I cut the recipe in half as there are only two people in our household. I omitted the worchestershire sauce as others have, and it was still great. Next time, I'll try using low-fat plain yogurt instead of sour cream and see if it'll end up a little thicker for use as a dip.

Fruit Salad Abalos Style

Reviewed: Jan. 15, 2012
I have been looking for this recipe for a very long time! I'm so glad to have found it. My Filipino friends in So. Cal. always served it at our summer parties. The only change to the recipe was I added a small tub of whipped topping, mixing it with the fruit, then freezing it. Take it out of the freezer 15 minutes before serving. It's a wonderful fluffy, frozen, fruity treat!
