My favorite things to cook
I bake all the time and enjoy sharing my creations with anyone and everyone! I've made a name for myself at work as "the girl who bakes." Neat way to make friends :-)
My favorite family cooking traditions
Cooking with my dad--we argue constantly, but it makes our dishes turn out perfectly every time! And learning all of my grandmother's trademark recipes whenever I get a chance to come home. Baking must run in our family! I'm hoping to carry on her traditions for my own children.
My cooking triumphs
Making my first layer cake. It turned out perfectly! It was for a friend's birthday, from scratch, complete with pink frosting. She was thrilled :-)
My cooking tragedies
One sugar cookie recipe called for the cookie balls to be rolled in sugar before baking. I noticed a container of what I thought was coarse-grain sugar in our pantry and rolled the cookies in it. One bite of the cooled cookies and I realized it was SALT. Obviously, not my best work!

Chocolate Truffle Cookies
This recipe is great, albeit a bit too chocolatey (weird coming from a chocoholic like me). Next time, I might sub milk chocolate chips for the 1 cup semisweet chips stirred in at the end. Rolled mine in powdered sugar before baking to try and offset the slight bitterness, and they look gorgeous. Also, for those with spreading issues, it's a must with this or ANY cookie recipe to chill the dough overnight! And bake on parchment-lined cookie sheets. I've always had picture-perfect results with the chilled dough and parchment, even in my terrible electric oven.

Pumpkin Fudge
Made this for the boyfriend, who is a pumpkin fiend. Satisfied his pumpkin craving (as well as the cravings of his 4 other roommates!) without the hassle of baking a pie! I'll definitely be making this again. I used heart shaped cookie cutters for cute shapes and ate the scraps myself :-)

Molasses Sugar Cookies
Wow. Cookies are nice and soft! I used 1/2 white and 1/2 brown sugar. I like to roll them in superfine sugar (not powdered) and sprinkle a little more over the tops before baking. Nice, crackled, sparkly appearance! For me, it was 350 for 12 minutes, perfection. Only 4 stars, though, because they weren't quite spicy enough. Next time I'll add some fresh grated ginger for an extra kick!
