I live in the Louisville area, after living out of state, for over 15 years. Louisville is where the 'Derby' rules. So, there are a lot of activities & foods related to that. Louisville is famous for the 'Hot Brown', which is an open face sandwich with turkey or chicken, bacon, toasted bread & a tasty cheese sauce. Also popular, is the Derby Pie. I am a mother of two & grandmother of two. Love collecting recipes & cookbooks. Enjoy reading, music & seeing my 2 yr. old granddaughter & newborn 2nd granddaughter. Am partially disabled, these days, so I don't always cook big meals, but like to, when I am able.
My favorite things to cook
Different ways to cook chicken. Enjoy making pork roast, pork tenderloin & eating them, as well as eating pulled pork & pulled chicken. Love my husband's Kentucky version of Burgoo, which was originally a hunter's stew with venison (deer meat), rabbit, etc. His version has chicken, pork, & beef. I also love making various kinds of soup, in the fall & winter. Like to bake, when I am up to the challenge.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Making Christmas cookies, fudge & other desserts. Also, salads, like ambrosia. Most of which are from my mom & grandmother.
My cooking triumphs
Making Thanksgiving dinner each year. My husband does try to help, with peeling potatoes, & he usually makes the slaw. That was a tradition his father did. I make sweet potatoes, giblet gravy, & broccoli casserole & other sides dishes like my Mom's & some of my own. Everyone enjoys the eating party.
My cooking tragedies
Early in my marriage, I made a ground beef, barbecue sauce dish, with biscuits on top. I followed directions, but my husband couldn't take all of the bbq sauce. It was too much sauce, & I agreed with him. Another time, I used the wrong kind of potatoes to fix mashed potatoes. They were like glue, no matter what you tried to do with them.
