Vodka Slush

Reviewed: Jul. 23, 2008
This is SO GOOD! I used only half the sugar, and it is plenty sweet enough (even for me, and I have a major sweet tooth). I will definitely make this again!

Broiled Sweet and Tangy Tilapia

Reviewed: May 10, 2008
I really like this recipe! It's easy and delicious. Like others mentioned, I use olive oil instead of butter, and I also use dried tarragon.

Black Bean, Corn and Turkey Chili

Reviewed: Dec. 4, 2008
Ok I'm giving this 3 stars because it's just OK as written but I think it has a lot of potential. First of all it was way too sweet - I will definitely leave out the sugar next time. Also, it just seems to be really lacking something. I recommend adding lime juice, either to the whole batch or as an option at the table for individual servings.

Baked Lemon Chicken with Mushroom Sauce

Reviewed: Sep. 20, 2008
This tasted pretty good, but I had to make some changes. I added garlic, for one. Also, the half cup of chicken broth turned to paste immediately - i added another half cup broth, but it was still very thick. The sauce just has an unappealing greyish appearance. It tasted alright, but then I squeezed another half lemon over the chicken/mushroom sauce, and that made it quite good after all.

Smirnoff White Grape Cosmo

Reviewed: Jun. 16, 2008
I was so excited to make this drink, but it was a huge disappointment. This was absolutely terrible. My husband did not enjoy it, either. I followed the recipe exactly. The problem was the Smirnoff white grape vodka. It tasted exactly like childrens chewable grape tylenol. The flavor was really strong, and wasn't masked by the other components of the drink. If grape tylenol is a flavor you enjoy, then I guess this is the drink for you. I will say that squeezing the lemon in at the end is the only thing that made this drink even remotely tolerable. I might some day give this recipe one more chance using a NON-flavored vodka, but I will NEVER make this drink as the recipe indicates.

This is rich, creamy, and pumpkiny. Absolutely wonderful! Will definitely make again.

Broccoli and Ramen Noodle Salad

Reviewed: Jun. 16, 2008
I LOVE this salad! My mom has made it for years, it's a family favorite. When I make it, I like to leave the broken up Ramen noodles out of the salad mixture but serve them on the side. Each person can sprinkle them on top of their serving to add crunch. That way when you eat leftovers the next day you don't just have soggy noodles in your salad.

Blue Cheese Burgers

Reviewed: May 10, 2008
I have made this recipe twice now, and my husbands keeps requesting that I make it again. These burgers are delicious! I gave it 4 stars only because I increased the amounts of many of the seasonings, especially the bleu cheese, to make them a little more flavorful. Also, we found it easiest to grill them if we lay aluminum foil on the grills and cook the burgers on top. This helps prevent constant flare-ups and charring.

Grilled Portobello Mushrooms

Reviewed: May 10, 2008
This was my first attempt at grilling portobello mushrooms, and I thought they turned out very nicely. They were flavorful and juicy, we ate them on hamburger buns.

Pomegranate Margarita

Reviewed: Jul. 27, 2011
My husband and I thought this was VERY good. I used fresh squeezed juice from a couple of pomegranates that I needed to use up. I left out the sugar, but used Rose's sweetened lime juice (instead of fresh) so I think that balanced out nicely. Will definitely make again!

Grilled Sea Bass

Reviewed: Sep. 1, 2010
I thought the herb rub was delicious, perfect for the fish. My complaint is that the dish seems awfully oily. I only used half the butter called for, and skipped the olive oil entirely, and by husband and I both found it greasy (and believe me, he is no health nut). I will definitely use the seasoning mix again, sans butter/oil.

Way too much cream cheese. Cream cheese soup with a little tomato. Really not good.

White Peach Sangria

Reviewed: Jul. 23, 2008
My husband and I really enjoyed this! I used frozen peaches, but I think fresh ones would have been better. I also added some frozen raspberries. Excellent!

Tomato-Cream Sauce for Pasta

Reviewed: Jun. 16, 2008
I thought the flavor of this was very good. I also blended it slightly to make the texture smoother. If you are trying to make this less fattening - DO NOT substitute fat free half and half! As soon as I added it to the sauce it separated and formed a solid, making the whole sauce really grainy.

Gingered Pears

Reviewed: Jun. 16, 2008
I thought this was pretty good. I also used 1 tsp ginger and 0.5 tsp cinnamon like keebler78 suggested. I served with low fat vanilla ice cream and pecans. This was easy and healthy, but I think the kind of pear you buy probably makes a big difference. I used Bosc pears, and they were only so-so. Whether that was because of the brand or because of the poor quality of Meijer produce, I couldn't say. I think this recipe would definitely be deserving of 4 stars if better pears were used.

Slow-Cooker Chicken Tortilla Soup

Reviewed: May 10, 2008
This soup was excellent! I just threw 2 frozen chicken breasts in with the rest of the ingredients in the morning, and they were cooked perfectly for shredding at the end of the day. I didn't make my own tortilla chips, I served the soup with shredded cheese, sour cream, and avocado. I will make this again and again!

Blueberry Zucchini Bread

Reviewed: Jul. 26, 2010
I'd love to give this 3.5 stars. I thought this was good, but was missing something. Not sure what yet. The flavors were good, but were overpowered by the tartness of the blueberries. Not as good as my Mom's :)

Eggplant Parmesan

Reviewed: Jul. 25, 2010
We had never had eggplant before, so I can't really compare to other eggplant dishes. However, my husband and I liked this very well. I followed the recipe except that I used extra garlic in the olive oil and used a Pecorino Romano, instead of Parmesian cheese, since that is what I had on hand. Very good, will probably make again.
