Gingered Pears

Reviewed: Jun. 16, 2008
I thought this was pretty good. I also used 1 tsp ginger and 0.5 tsp cinnamon like keebler78 suggested. I served with low fat vanilla ice cream and pecans. This was easy and healthy, but I think the kind of pear you buy probably makes a big difference. I used Bosc pears, and they were only so-so. Whether that was because of the brand or because of the poor quality of Meijer produce, I couldn't say. I think this recipe would definitely be deserving of 4 stars if better pears were used.

Smirnoff White Grape Cosmo

Reviewed: Jun. 16, 2008
I was so excited to make this drink, but it was a huge disappointment. This was absolutely terrible. My husband did not enjoy it, either. I followed the recipe exactly. The problem was the Smirnoff white grape vodka. It tasted exactly like childrens chewable grape tylenol. The flavor was really strong, and wasn't masked by the other components of the drink. If grape tylenol is a flavor you enjoy, then I guess this is the drink for you. I will say that squeezing the lemon in at the end is the only thing that made this drink even remotely tolerable. I might some day give this recipe one more chance using a NON-flavored vodka, but I will NEVER make this drink as the recipe indicates.

Broiled Sweet and Tangy Tilapia

Reviewed: May 10, 2008
I really like this recipe! It's easy and delicious. Like others mentioned, I use olive oil instead of butter, and I also use dried tarragon.

Blue Cheese Burgers

Reviewed: May 10, 2008
I have made this recipe twice now, and my husbands keeps requesting that I make it again. These burgers are delicious! I gave it 4 stars only because I increased the amounts of many of the seasonings, especially the bleu cheese, to make them a little more flavorful. Also, we found it easiest to grill them if we lay aluminum foil on the grills and cook the burgers on top. This helps prevent constant flare-ups and charring.

Slow-Cooker Chicken Tortilla Soup

Reviewed: May 10, 2008
This soup was excellent! I just threw 2 frozen chicken breasts in with the rest of the ingredients in the morning, and they were cooked perfectly for shredding at the end of the day. I didn't make my own tortilla chips, I served the soup with shredded cheese, sour cream, and avocado. I will make this again and again!

Easy Peach Cobbler

Reviewed: May 10, 2008
This was just alright in my opinion. It was very easy to make though. Part of the problem might have been the cake mix I used, it was vanilla flavored cake and I felt the flavor wasn't right for this. Also I felt like there was just too much cake, it really overpowered the peaches. I would only use 1/2 or 2/3 of the cake mix if I were to make this again.

Grilled Portobello Mushrooms

Reviewed: May 10, 2008
This was my first attempt at grilling portobello mushrooms, and I thought they turned out very nicely. They were flavorful and juicy, we ate them on hamburger buns.

Baked Asparagus with Balsamic Butter Sauce

Reviewed: May 10, 2008
I didn't like this sauce at all. It tasted way too strongly of soy sauce in my opinion, and really drowned out the flavor of the asparagus. My husband didn't like this either, and he loves soy sauce on just about anything. I won't be making this again.

Sour Cream Chicken

Reviewed: Jan. 15, 2008
If you make this just like the recipe states, to me it tastes like sour milk. I added a lot of the modifications people suggested in the comments - garlic, Italian seasonings, Parmesan cheese, cream of mushroom soup instead of cream of chicken. That helped some, but I still don't plan on making this recipe ever again.

Spicy Peach-Glazed Pork Chops

Reviewed: Jan. 9, 2008
This is SO good! My husband and I loved it, we can't wait to make it again! I actually did this with pork tenderloin, which I first seared, and then broiled, basting occasionally. I also couldn't find chili paste, so I substituted equal parts chili powder and red pepper.
